Matilda walks into the dining room and the first thing she sees is the painting. It is not one she has seen before. She sees Jimmy look at the painting, Before he moves away to see how Caleb is.
Matilda ignores Caleb as she looks at this painting, almost like she is admiring it and she just keeps looking at it, she knows it is an unremarkable painting.

Arthur comes into the dining room, sees Matilda, Caleb, and Jimmy ...
"Great, just who I need. Officer Simon saw someone out back, and we need back up!"
Dickens is holding a garden rake in one hand, looking a little sick. He looks anxious to get back to the officer, and indicates that they follow him out back through the kitchen.

'Rats!!!! What the hell?!' Caleb's voice seems have become slightly frantic sounding, he spins as Jimmy touches his shoulder. 'Jimmy boy! Can you hear those bloody rats? There must be thousands of them up there!' His voiced become a whisper by the end of the sentence and he pointed at the roof with one hand as his other raised a finger to Jimmy's mouth signalling for him to be quiet. 'Lady watch the leaves! How can a rat catcher have rats?' he whispers.
When he hears the voice of his friend Caleb's attention is drawn away from Jimmy, 'Better not be rats, Dickens!'

Dickens looks at Caleb, smiles, "Sorry old man. Rats, and more rats. Dead, putrefied, bones .... and living ... and something else. But I need you. I need your strength. Will you come?"

Matilda turns round as soon as she hears Caleb shouting something about Rats.
"Rats well Talbott was an exterminator, maybe he took his work home with him?" Trying to sound reassuring (which she worries could be make things worse.
She follows on to move into the kitchen.

Arthur needed him, needed him to help. Just like before. Maybe this time Arthur would come away with something to tease Caleb about.
Caleb seems to compose himself as he nods to Arthur and smiles at Matilda. He realises that he had grabbed Jimmy by the jacket collar. With an awkward smile he lets go and smoothes down the mans lapels.
'Sorry Jim, hope I didn't hurt you! Dunno what came over me? More rats you say Dickens,?well thats just bloody typical.' he takes his flask from Jimmy and swallows a good gulp of the rum. 'Onwards then brave companions!' he laughs, hoping he didn't sound as rattled as he actually was.
Caleb leaves the dinning for the kitchen.

Caleb pauses to produce his revolver and check that it is loaded. Happy that it is he steps out into the backyard. Waiting for the others to follow.
Caleb leaves the kitchen for the backyard.

Jimmy cocks his head in bewilderment, his eyes following Caleb Something seemed wrong with him (PSYCHOLOGY ROLL) but Arthur's sense of urgency meant he would have to question Caleb later.
Rats... things kept coming back to rats...
Watching Matilda head towards the kitchen door, Jimmy follows suit.

Matilda manages to get into the kitchen, still panicking and checking the rat is out of her hair, she once again shouts to herself "Still enjoying this Nyarlathotep. Are you testing me? I still worship you before pacing around the kitchen trying to work out her next move as she remembers Caleb and Dickens are still out there.
She starts to check the door and window from the back garden are closed

It was amusing that she would say that, the portrait in the dining room makes a laughing sound that is audible through the house. The rat is flung out of her hair as she enters the kitchen and lands in the sink, but it still appears to want to murder her. Now there are what appear to be phantom rats watching her from every square inch of the kitchen. There is a terrible scratching racket coming from up in the attic and coming from the garden door.

She hears the laughing first of all, a laugh that sounds like someone is enjoying the rats attacking her she shouts loudly "Whoes there. Where are you?" She sees the rats watching her, and she feels their eyes on her, the colour starts to drain from her face after convincing herself the rats are going to kill her. Then come the noises, the scratching coming from the house. She makes her way to where she thinks the laugh came from hoping someone is there.
She backs away slowly to the dining room. Scared any sudden movements will mean they attack

Matilda manages to make her way to the dining room thinking someone in there laughing, hoping someone else is there. She is still scared of the rats that are after her. She taps herself down to check for rats. She tries to shut the door to hopefully shut the rats out as she curses the dammed rats in this house. She thinks about the others before seeing if the laugh is still going on.
Listen roll please.

She hears footsteps behind her, standing behind her is a man with midnight black leathery skin, hooves for feet, black eyes, black teeth, black clothing... everything is midnight black. "It wasn't me dear, but as you called out to me. What have you summoned me here for?" He had a very alluring voice as he spoke to her, "Your friends seem to be in a... bind." The black man shifts a huge iron book from one arm to the other.

Hearing that voice, Matilda knows straight away who it is. She feels a little bit calmer for a few moments, she knew it was him, her God and she just says before turning round and in a slightly raised voice just says "I did not mean to summon you. I was blaming you. I thought you would be enjoying it, watching the rats attack
She turns round and looks at Nyarlathotep standing in the dining room with her. She returns in her hushed tones, not wanting the others to hear her say what she says to Nyarlathotep "They're not my friends. I don't have friends anymore since you came along"

"I do not dabble in human relations and whether they are friends or not; friends is an insignificant concept in the greater universe." The black man taps his book, "Find others to sign the book, find others to worship me with you." He motions to the painting on the wall, "The green man is enjoying the ones in the garden, he is hungry and like a fly into a venus fly trap they have flown into poison."
With a wave of his hand the mice in the room suddenly explode and splatter blood and bits on the wall; the shadows of the rodents that started to creep in suddenly scurry away, "Someone has been messing with the dreamlands." The black man walks across the room to the potrait, his hooves clopping lightly against the old wood flooring.

Matilda looks at The Black man before saying "Oh course I'll find others. It is you I serve and worship" She also looks at the painting on the wall and after a while she asks "The Green Man, is he the image in the painting"?
She watches the rats explode and tries not to be sick. "Thank you. You did not need to do that"she says as he walks to the portrait.

The image of the green man starts to move, it looks agitated and wriggles around its vines at her attempting to look menacing; The Black Man holds up a hand and the painting freezes back in place as if a barrier is hovering over it. "Yes. We have a complicated affiliation." The painting suddenly goes blank and a solid white the moment The Black Man rests his palm against the canvas.

Was that painting moving? Matilda thought, maybe Caleb was not lying when he said it moved. She should have not doubted him at all. Looking at the canvas which once had the portrait on she asks him “I know it is not my place to ask but what do you mean by complicated affiliation?” She pauses before continuing “Is The Green Man like you?”

"You could say we sing in the same choir from time to time." The Black Man looks towards the kitchen then back to Matilda, "Are you going, or are you staying?"
