The music industry along with rest of the world was shocked early last week when the band Forsaken Paradise suffered not one but two tragedies. The first incident came Saturday morning as word spread that original member and drummer Dane Silvers died late Friday night in a hotel room. Dane had been struggling with drug addiction silently for a number of years. Dane's body was found by front man David Alexander when he went to check on Dane when he did not respond to text messages or calls.
The second incident came only a day later when David wrapped his car around a tree. Authorities did not suspect drugs or alcohol to be involved and so far the investigation has supported that theory. Some outlets and those close to the band have said that David was over come with grief after visiting with Dane's parents Saturday night and lost control of his car. David was air lifted to an undisclosed hospital and according to the band's rep. is still list in critical but stable condition. Doctors have said he will most likely be in the hospital for a month as his injuries heal.
Lead guitarist and founder Darren Young held a press conference last night after a practice to give a statement and answer a few questions.
"We have all been affected by the loss of our brother Dane Silvers. His battle was one fought in silence. We've all tried to help him, however in the end it was his addiction that won out. It is in his memory that we have decided to make a donation Addiction Centers of America "
When asked what this meant for the band Young said that they are in fact looking for a new drummer and will still be touring in the winter. One reporter asked why they where already looking for a new member Darren respond by saying:
"we feel that we have an obligation to our fans. Yes his death is a lost, however we have to stay strong and keep pressing on for our fans. It's because of them we are who we are. this is what Dane would have wanted. He like the rest of us have always put the fans first."
Darren also mentioned that with a new drummer would come a change in sound. when questioned he said:
"It is our belief that a band should be flexible and be willing to challenge them selves. This is the only way we can continue to deliver to our fans the quality they have come to expect.
Young then addressed the car accident and condition their lead singer David:
"David is still in critical condition as you all know by now. He is however stable and expected to make a full recovery. we all look forward to his return to the band."
David is expected to be back with the band by the end of July early part of August. Dane's funeral will be held as soon as David is out of the hospital, however it will be privet and a close casket.
We wish the best for the band, their families and there fans.
