"If you'd rather draw, then draw. The important thing is to get it out, so your head can rest."
She taps the side of her head with the tip of her wand, drawing forth a silvery thread, that she allows to return again.
"When you are older, I will show you the wizard way. But you have much to learn first. Now, you rest, and when you are ready, you can return to play. oK?"

Matilda opened her eyes and saw the silvery strand. "What was that?!" She looked at her and was shocked at what she just saw.
"How can I rest when you show me something so neat!?" She laughed softly. "Will the camp be here every summer?" She asked.
She would very much like to come back each year.

Agatha chuckles.
"It was a memory. Perhaps showing you gives you something else to think on, something more to look forward to. And yes, camp is here every summer, and will be as long as I live. After that, I cannot say."

Matilda smiled. "That would be neat. I would like to learn that some day. Can you see the memories in the silver string thing?" She asked.
Wouldn't it be cool to take those memories and for the good ones to some how put up on a type of picture frame to play in the frame, sort of like the moving photos do.

"In a very special way, yes. And you can store them, to watch later. You have so much ahead of you, Matilda. More surprises than you can possibly imagine!" She leans close and whispers "unicorns are real!" with the most conspiratorial of smiles.

Matilda looked up in surprise. "REALLY!!" She yelled out and sat up rather quickly.
"Unicorns! Are dragons real also!?!?" She was suddenly very excited again and she ignored her head throbbing.

Agatha sits back with a jolt as Matilda squeals in her ear. She blinks, shakes her head, but smiles.
"Yes, really. And dragons, too. And giants and centaurs and ghosts and pixies and so many amazing things, both good and ill. All for you to learn about in coming years."
This was what she loved most about the muggle-born ... the joy of watching them learn that all their fantasies were real somewhere, and waiting to be discovered.

"Have you ever seen a unicorn? or a dragon? Are they so beautiful!? Are they as white and beautiful or are they like colorful and bright?" She was really excited.
"Ms. Masters told me about the pixies but she said they weren't like Tinker Bell from the Disney movies, that they were mean little buggers. She also told me that Vampires and Werewolves were real but not all of them are monsters. I can't wait to get to school and start learning everything!"

"They are white, the unicorns, and very beautiful. Dragons are mostly mean and angry and vicious, but magnificent. Yes, pixies are little ..." clearly she begins to say 'shits' but thinks better of it. "Nuisances. And it is true that not all vampires and werewolves are monsters, but both have monstrous natures and you should be cautious if you ever meet one."
She offers Matilda another candy, popping one into her own mouth.
"You will learn all this and more at school. Magical creatures is an important subject. As is Defense Against the Dark Arts. There are just as many dark things in the world as there are creatures of the light, and many more neutral things with only their own survival in their minds. But, you have time to learn in the safety of your school."
Agatha looks over her shoulder, then back at Matilda, and whispers as if what she is saying is a big secret.
"Tell you what ... before the summer is over, I'll see if I can get something interesting to come and visit. How's that?" And she winks.

Matilda took the candy offered. "Thank you very much." She smiles brightly at the woman and Morticia comes over to her and she pets the kitten.
"Defense against the dark arts? Is that like the bad magic that everyone was telling me about last week? When I wanted to try and find something when I wanted to help get inside my Dad's head to see the maze Mom says he is in?" She asked curiously.
"Oh, that would be wonderful. Maybe a unicorn. I would really love to see one." She was picking.
"Oh are their elves? Like from Lord of the Rings?" She looks up with wonder.

Agatha laughs.
"I've never met an elf ... not like in the stories, anyway. We have house elves, who help wizards in their homes. But as for the talk beautiful creatures of story, I've not met one, so can't truly say."
She thinks on Matilda's other questions.
"Some magics are dangerous because they are difficult to control, and can lead to effects we don't plan. Playing within another's mind is one such type of magic. It is all too easy to make unwanted changes, and permanently lose the person you are seeking to help."
She had heard that the child was very set on delving into her father's mind, and hoped she had given her some reason to let that need go.
"Dark Arts is more than that. It is combatting the shadowy world where evil things lie in wait. Like creatures that hunt and kill unicorns, or steal little children from their beds. Dark thing with dark desires, dark needs. All witches and wizards learn about these dark things, and how to protect against them."

Matilda listened . "Is that what the little guy is that runs around here with the really big head, eyes and ears?" She wasn't trying to be mean by any means she just wanted to make sure she was right about whom Aunt Agatha was talking about.
"Yes, that is what I kept hearing from everyone." She sighs. "I just, wish there was something more that could be done. There is so much wondrous things in the world, it is sad that there isn't cures for coma's or cancers yet. Ya know." She said with a sad almost mater of fact type of voice.
"It also stinks that with good things, there are always bad things coming to fight. Why can't their just be peace? Even the war back home, I don't think it is magical because everyone talks about it. It sucks that people can't get along and protect things that are precious." She picked up Morticia and held her, smiling and kissing the top of her head.

"Yes, Professor McGriffin brought her house elf with her. You saw him at the bonfire. I have a little fellow who serves me, too. He's usually at reception. They are house elves. Not quite like those in the story books."
She pats Maild's hand again.
"There have been wizards who have tried to rule the world, for good or ill. But any rule that seeks to impose its will on the world, and take away free choice, is evil. We have fought against our own kind who have tried this, and we always will. We do what we can, but people should always have the freedom to make mistakes."

Matilda lays back against the bed and listened as she spoke. "I don't understand why everyone has to fight. I understand the choice to choose freedom and to make ones own choices. I made that choice when I started calling Teagan and Dristan, Mom and Dad. Dristan asked if I wanted to be adopted and I think it was the happiest moment of my life. I got to choose that. That they asked meant they wanted it also. It was incredible."
She smiled and closed her eyes. "Is there anything for my headache? It really hurts still." She took another sip of water and laid on her side facing Aunt Agatha with Morticia curled up under her arm.

Agatha listens, nods.
"They do want you. And getting to know you, I can see why. Some people are ..." she searches for the right word, "broken. Their minds do not work as they should. Some are scared, and lash out. There are as many reasons as there are people. And you cannot fix all problems. You much choose your battles carefully. And yes, of course."
She sets one of her knitted creations on the floor, and it scurries off across the room. Morticia jumps down to follow it, intrigued. It oozes up a cabinet, encloses a small bottle from the shelf, and oozes back down again. When it reaches the ground Morticia dutifully picks it up in her mouth, and carries it back again, jumping back up to lie beside Matilda.
Agatha takes the ooze from Morticia and then the bottle from the ooze. She checks the label, then opens the bottle, handing it to Matilda.
"Drink this. A little more magic to add to your experience."
When matilda drinks the potion, there is a flow of warmth through her body, and the pain is gone. All she is left with is a slight cherry taste in her mouth.

"That makes sense I guess. I wonder if my birth parents were broken in the head." She whispered it under her breath. She bites the inside of her cheeks when she realized she said it out loud.
She watched Morticia chase the knitted thing across the floor and she chuckled softly. "She likes the way you make that yarn move." She says with a smile as Morticia joins her again.
She takes the potion and drinks it, shaking a bit from the taste. She wasn't one for liquid medicine with cherry flavor but she didn't argue about it. "Thank you." She smiles as she suddenly feels much better. "That is wonderful. That medicine stuff. Nasty flavor but wow, my headache is all gone." She was once more in shock and wonder at the magical world.

"Of course it is, it's magic!" Agatha winks, completely ignoring Matilda's other question.
"Now that you're feeling better, go and play. Maybe take a swim. Let your body become tired. You'll sleep better tonight for it."
She offers Matilda one last humbug from the bag, then stands, waiting to escort matilda outside again.

Calista rose as she saw Agatha and Matilda getting ready to exit. Jillian had been dismissed. She peered and waited, her hands clasped as she waited to hear what the news was.

Matilda smiled and stood up with Morticia in her arms. "Thank you Aunt Agatha." She said as they walked out.
"Thank you for bringing me here Ms. Redthistle." She smiled and ran off with Morticia, she wanted to go find Kiami and Gomez.

Agatha nods to Calista.
"Yes, thank you. You're doing a grand job."
She watches a matilda run off with the kitten, turns to Calksts.
"She worries too deeply. I fear her nightmares will just get worse. See if you can get in touch with the foster mother about another stint back in London? I need to send an owl or two myself."
She pats Cslista's hand, and toddles off.

Calista nodded at Matilda as she darted out the door with her kitten. Turning back to Agatha she sighed.
"Something more was going on, I knew it." She said, nodding at Agatha's request. Watching the old woman, she went out the door, heading to her cabin to write the owl to Matilda's foster parents. She feared for the girt's mental well being as well as physical health.
She stepped off across the camp, replaying the events in her head.
And that blasted painting.
