The water lapped at the shores of the camp, the breeze gently blowing Calista's hair. She watched a group of campers wrestling just off the beach in the water, playing a tag of sorts. A few others were buryibg themselves in sand. The laighter rang out through the sunny day. She was tired, but a good tired.
Thoughts wandering to Caleb, a smile crossing her face. She seemed so tame these days and wondered if she would ever be the old Calista, and if so could Caleb handle it? The shrill squeal of a child drew her out of her daydream and back to her duties.

Matilda had dosed off while painting in the sun. The picture was black with little lights flickering on the edges. A maze seemingly amongst the canvas.
She had dropped the paintbrush and started dreaming about looking for Dristan. Lost among the maze, screaming out for him to look at her to come to her. Why wouldn't he look? Why couldn't he see her? "DADDDYYY!!!"
She hadn't known she was sleeping nor did she realize that she was screaming outloud. Morticia was meowing and kneeding her lap, trying to rouse the sleeping child.

Jillian had heard the cry from where she say huddled in the shade not far from the water. Looking up she noticed the young girl was asleep. The apparently nightmare did not surprise Jillian much, she had been having a lot of difficulty getting a good night sleep herself lately. She had put it down to the heat but some of it was really getting to her.
Getting to her feet Jillian looked around for someone in authority and noticed Calista. She did not recognise the witch but assumed she was one of the camp staff so she attempted a small hesitant wave to catch the womans attention before pointing in Matilda's direction. She would try and help the girl herself, but thought that an adult more used to the area would have better spellwork if it was needed. Her mother had given her plenty of warnings about sunstroke after all.

Calista caught movement from another camper and rose to her feet. Walking over towards the waving girl, Calista brushed sand from her shorts and her legs. "What is it?" She asked Jillian, her green eyes darting about.
"What was that noise? Did I hear Daddy?" She asked, noticing Matilda and her kitten, a painting nearby.
The girl seemed distressed and the kitten was looking as if she was bothered by the girl's condition. Turning to Jillian, she handed her a bandanna. "Please go wet this in the lake." Calista put her hand on the girl's face.
"Matilda. Honey, wake up." She gently urged, her other hand on the girls shoulder, slightly shaking her.

Matilda's eyes opened and she nearly screamed at the sudden vision of the woman so close to her. The shaking having rattled her out of her nightmare. Tears formed in her eyes and she struggled to not cry. Morticia was mewling and pacing over her lap and she saw her painting on the ground, covered in the sand of the beach.
She looked up at Ms. Redthistle. "I am sorry." She whispered. "To much sun maybe?" She said, not wanting to think about the thoughts running through her head. "Morticia I am okay." She whispered to the kitten who sat down, then curled up in her lap, purring so loud, she was sure kids playing down at the beach could hear her.
She looked up to Ms. Redthistle again unsure of what else to say in that moment, clearly shaken and disturbed by what she saw.

Having obediantly rushed off to the lake, Jillian returned with the now wet bandana. Getting back she knelt next to Matilda, careful not to stand on the painting. Speaking softly, her voice a little concerned, she offered the cloth. "Here, I hope this helps. Are you alright?"
She was not too sure what else to say, she had never been too good with strangers unless research of some kind was involved but she managed to keep a smile on her face. She remembered how difficult things had been for her when she was the same age as the girl in front of her and how a friendly smile had been a blessing at times.

Calista held Matilda up and felt her forehead. "Child, you are on fire!" She said, turning to Jillian as she returned with the bandanna. Calista nodded and sat down next to the obviously shaken girl. "Too much sun and a daymare? That's what I call a bad dream during the day." Calista said in a soothing voice. She stroked the girls sweaty hair, looking at Jillian.
"Thank you." She said placing the wet cloth on Matilda's head and face, dabbing her. "You need to get out of this heat." She said, picking up the painting and trying to shake the sand off. "What happened?"

Matilda felt the cool cloth on her head and it sent a shiver through her body and she visibly shook from it trying to move away from it. "That is freezing." She whispered as her head started to throb. "I um." She looked at the painting on the ground and reached for it, her head dizzy as she fumbled in the sand to grab it but saw that it was picked up already. "Well, I was painting that." She said as she looked at the painting.
The picture is a dark shadowed maze with a figure standing in the center, small lights twinkled around the outside of the picture itself, but they seemed to have been fading out to the black of the maze. "I dreamed about this." She said softly, tears starting to fall from her eyes.
Her head spun some more and she leaned against Ms. Redthistle and closed her eyes, trying to stop the world from spinning each time she opened them. Even with her eyes closed her body swayed as if spinning on a merry go round.

An almost apologetic look flashed across Jillian's features as Matilda flinched at the touch of the cloth, but she chased it away. Turning to gaze at the painting her expression darkened, she remembered her own bad dreams of late and could not help but wonder what must have been going through the young girls head to have painted something like this while sitting near the sunny lakeside surrounded by the cheerful games and laughter of the other kids. At the same time she could not help but be impressed at the painting.
"You are very good.." She managed to say slowly, having no idea what to say about the maze or its contained figure. "I would not be able to paint anything this good"
She hoped the compliment would be of some comfort to the girl, true as it was, but she was clearly a little uneasy about what the painting actually showed. Turning her head back to the adult witch, she peered at her a moment hoping she would have more to say.

Calista steadied the girl and even though the cloth wasn't that cold, it definitely showed that Matilda was exhausted. "It is a very good painting. However, you will need to have to explain why you may have dreamt that.' Her green eyes looked to Jillian, showing a bit of unease and disturbance at the creation. "I am Professor Redthistle, my dear. Will you kindly take the painting and find Aunt Agatha and explain what happened? I am going to get Matilda to the infirmary".
Concern crossed her face. Heat exhaustion or stroke was never a good thing, but she knew there was something else going on. Small children didn't just paint images like that. She scooped up Matilda, waitied for the kitten to start following and realized the girl was drenched in sweat and trembling. She felt there was more to it, but she would hear sooner or later she was sure of it.

Matilda laid against Ms. Redthistle as she scooped her up, Morticia following along. The girl closed her eyes and rested. She was tired again and wanted to go back to sleep. "Thank you." She whispered as they began to move.
Her stomach started to get nauseous, and she felt as if she was going to throw up from the sudden movement and unfortunately she did. Her head turned to the side away from the woman that held her and she started to heave, tears streaming down her face as she tried to apologize for the action. "I'm sorry."

Jillian nodded and then watched the two head off. Then she looked down at the painting with an uneasy expression, it unnerved her for several reasons. Getting to her feet she looked about, having only arrived at the camp a week before she was not entirely sure who Aunt Agatha was, but she felt it should not be too difficult to find her. Professor Redthistle's name sounded familiar too, but she didn't have time to place it.
Standing up and holding the painting against her so her body kept the image from view of anyone, including herself, she made her way towards the camp proper.

Calista felt the lurch from the girl in her arms and stopped walking, the the majority of the vomit missing her, but her tennis shoes were splattered. She closed her eyes and steadied herself, shaking her head at the girl's apology. "It is ok, dont you worry. My son once did the same thing from spinning too fast, though that went down my shirt." She said continuing to walk to the small building that held the infirmary.
Calista entered and set the girl on one of the cots, grabbing her water bottle off of her belt loop on her shorts. "Sip on this, tiny sips." She said, giving it to Matilda. Where was the nurse? The place seemed abandoned.

Matilda laid on the bed as Calista laid her down. She took the water and took a small sip. Her stomach turning a bit more at the cold liquid hitting her now empty stomach. She closed her eyes and laid there, her body still shivering a bit everyone once and awhile. She was cold, but she was hot. She didn't know what was wrong.
"Maybe I ate something that didn't agree with me?" She asked as she opened her eyes and looked at Calista.

Suddenly, Agatha and @elleusive were there, the old witch having apported them both into the room.
Agatha let go Jillian's hand and moved to the side of the bed where Calista tended Matilda. She pulled out her bag of sweets, and offered one to the girl.
"A little sugar might help."

Calista backed away a bit as Agatha and Jillian appeared, letting the old witch have some space. Calistas eyes wandered about, wondering if that troubling painting had arrived with the two.
"She fell asleep in the sun. She has thrown up. " she said looking down at her shoes that were now soaked in vomit. Thankfully she had a good spell for that. "She is getting worse."

"She is troubled, and needing rest. I will stay and watch her, you go get cleaned up." She says to Calista.
To Jillian she adds "Thank you very much for fetching me. The painting is still by the cabins, could you fetch it to my office please?"
She held Matilda's hand. "Too much sun, girl. You need to take it easy." Her house elf brings a cold compress for Matilda's forehead, and iced water for her to sip. "Now, tell Aunt Agatha what happened."

Matilda had her eyes closed when the two adults started to speak. She took the sweet from Aunt Agatha and sucked on the hard candy. She watched with slightly opened eyes. "Uh, I just fell asleep I guess?" She spoke with a rough low voice. "Then like Ms. Redthistle said, I had a nightmare." She said softly as she curled up on her side. She didn't want to close her eyes again.
She would only see that painting with closed eyes, so she just stared, watching Aunt Agatha and Ms. Redthistle and the house elf as it placed the cooling rag against her forehead. She shivered a bit more at the cool touch but didn't move away this time as she sighed.
Morticia took it upon herself at this point to jump up on the small bed and curl up around Matilda's stomach, purring and trying to help the girl, the only way she knew how.

"Yes, but there is more than that. You can tell me, dear. I have seen almost all there is to see in my life."
She pats Matilda's hand reassuringly, then reaches into her pocket, looking for something. As she searches, she pulls out pieces of knitted fabric that seem to come alive, crawling all over Matilda and Morticia. They seem playful, and curious, and Agatha carefully collects them all again, stuffing them away, and taking a dried flower which she slips beneath Matilda's pillow.

Calista nodded and did as she was told, heading to the cabins to get herself cleaned up. Once she had done as was needed, Calista returned, freshened up and sat just inside the entrance of the infirmary while Agatha saw to Matilda.
Her worry began to rise, hoping that there weren't any lasting effects. She also wondered what in the hell drove a child so young to paint what and how she did. Talent, yes, but something darker was in play.

Matilda smiled at the material that seemed to play and come to life on top of her and Morticia, the kitten swatting at it then chasing it aw it disappeared. She sat and stared at Agatha's pocket waiting for it to come back out so she could play some more.
Matilda laughed and then looked to Aunt Agatha. She sighed and told her about the nightmares she was being plagued with and how she painted it to try and get it out of her mind. When she finished telling her, she sipped again on the water.

"You must be very close to your foster father, and he to you, for you to dream of such things." She says, lightly stroking Matilda's hair, then reaching to pet Morticia too. "It shows you have a big heart, and a sensitive soul. These are good things to have, but they can hurt, too. When you feel like this, you need to take extra special care of yourself, so you don't let their pain make you sick. Do you understand?" Agatha smiled at her, still petting Morticia, pulling out a squirming yarn piece for the kitten to play with.

Jillian had rushed off to collect the painting as requested, knowing the way better now it did not take her too long. After she returned she hesitated at the door, taking a slight step to the side so that she was standing next to Professor Redthistle, who she gave a nervous smile. Again she held the painting so that the image that it portrayed was not visible to herself or the room as a whole. She stood quietly, listening to the conversation without interupting.

"I think we can give Matilda a little time to rest and recoup. Off with you both back to the sunshine. I will sit with her until she is feeling well enough to return."
Agatha waved off Jillian, indicating for her to leave the painting behind.
"Thank you, Ms Redthistle."
The old witch stays sitting with Matilda until she is feeling better.

Matilda watched Moritica for a few moments and then closed her eyes listening to Aunt Agatha speak.
"I really don't understand. How can you not be hurt when someone close gets hurt? What special care would I have to take?"
She asked and opened her eyes a bit to look at the painting being put down and then a bit more conversation between the others.
"I thought painting it would get it out of my head to begin with." She sighed as she looked over to where it was sat down.

"Not everyone feels so deeply, dear. It could be you will have a special connection to sympathetic magics. Too early to tell. But you do need to worry less about the things you have no control over. If you keep worrying and worrying, you will make yourself ill, and then you will be no help to anyone. Imagine your father waking, and discovering you had worried so much you were in hospital yourself! I'm sure he'd much rather you well and by his side. Yes?"
She smiled her most soothing smile, strokes Matilda's hair, then pets morticia. She is worried the girl will worry herself into sickness. She'd seen it before, seen someone die of worry and fear, and didn't want that for this troubled child.
"Painting it was actually a good idea. Writing, drawing, painting ... to get something out if your head ... is an old technique. But there is another step that follows, to completely exorcise an idea or thought ... destroy it completely. Write down a worry, burn the slip of paper. It's a magic as old as time, existing in many cultures. Not the same sort of magic as ours, but it does help."
Agatha looks from Matilda to the canvas, and back again.
"Would you like to burn it, Matilda?"

Matilda looked at the painting and then back to Aunt Agatha, listening to everything she had said to her. "You are right about Dad, he wouldn't want to know I was so wrapped up in worry that I made myself sick. I didn't even know that was possible. I don't want him to worry about me." She said in response.
She smiled a soft smile in response to the woman as she ran her hand over her hair and then went back to petting Morticia who was purring very loudly. "I think she likes you." She smiled at Morticia as well who meowed in response. "That would be a yes from her." She giggled softly.
"I don't know even if I burned it, I still dream about it every night." She said with a bit of worry again. "I have never burned art before. It would seem like a bad thing to do. If you look at other paintings around the world from famous painters, they have paintings like these as well, based on their thoughts or what they were going through at the time." She bite the inside of her cheek.
"I don't know. I think I want to keep it for now. Maybe put it away though. It seemed to worry the other girl. I don't want to cause anyone else problems but I don't want to burn it just yet either." She said still unsure if burning it would even be something she would do.

Agatha nods.
"You are right .. about other painters. So how about I keep it for you, for now. And maybe I can give you a journal you can write in, for the hard feelings. How does that sound?"
She continues to pet the kitten, enjoying the feel of its fur.

Matilda nods her head as she speaks. "That would be fine. I have a journal that I sketch in already."
"I guess I could write in that as well? I never really have taken to writing things down, I normally paint them. It feels more normal to me to draw or sketch it out."
Her head still hurt some and she took another sip of the water, she closed her eyes for a moment to stop the still occasional dizzy moment though they weren't as bad as before.
