Calista found her bunk oddly comfortable. The main staples she needed tucked away where they needed to be. Wand in hand she sorted a picture of her parents with her son to the corner writing desk and sighed as it settled into place. She was exhausted. Grabbing a sweater and setting her wand on her nightstand, she pulled it over her tee shirt and stepped out onto the small wooden porch of her cabin. The lantern she hung on the post casting a soft glow.
The crickets sang their nightly tubes and frogs croaked, summoning a mate. Leaning against the wooden planks on the cabin, Calista closed her eyes, the grounds silent except for the wildlife and the distant lapping of the lake in the night breeze. Never in a million years would she have thought she would be working at a summer camp. It would be a great way to get back to herself and at the same time, in a way, her teaching roots.
The moon hung high above and a moth bumped off of the lantern. Calista sat on a small, simple wooden bench against the modest building, her eyes gazing out at the quiet darkness that surrounded her cabin.

In the near silence of the night came a shuffling, and a rhythmic tap-tap ...
From the shadows, a hunched figure emerges.
Agatha, the camp coordinator, comes into view. She's carrying a small basket overflowing with yarn and needles, and Calista can spy within the chaos a bottle, too.
The old witch smiles as she approaches The cabin.
"I thought it was a nice evening for a welcome, and a get to know you!"
Without so much as asking, Agatha walks up onto the porch, and sits heavily beside Calista, pulling out the wine bottle, then two glasses, handing it all to Calists.
"So You're Calista Redthistle. Good to know you. I'm Agatha Larkshead. Welcome to Camp Crystal Lake. Share a drink with me, and tell me your story!"
The old witch cackles, but it has a hearty welcoming sound.

A sound coming from the dark caused Calista to snap her head towards the direction from which it came. For a moment her heart skipped a beat and she waited on bated breath. When the old woman appeared, she relaxed a bit and watched as she joined Calista on the bench.
Taking the glasses and wine handed to her, she smiled. "Pleased to meet you, Madam Larkshead. This is sure a nice welcome." She said, watching the old witch.
"I am looking forward to camp. I admit I was a bit nervous at first." Agatha's laughter eased her a bit more. Perhaps it wasn't going to be so bad. Calista held the two glasses between her fingers as she attempted to uncork the wine.
"It is nice to see there are certain things us adults don't have to go without."

Agatha smiles, showing half her teeth missing, and two of them gold.
"Lass, when you're around young'uns for three months of the year, every year, you need every help you can get."
She takes the bottle from Calista, pops the cork, and pours two glasses of deep a bed wine. It smells of fruit and flowers and summer. She sets the bottle on the ground between them, and takes one glass, raising it to toast.
"Welcome to Dasos. May you enjoy your summer enough to come back again!" She drinks, then balances the glass against her thigh and picks up her knitting.
"What did bring you to the island? We don't attract a lot of young witches ... unless they're running from something? Or someone?"
Thenold witch looks at Calista, winks, smiles. She knits very quickly, even without looking, and the fabric she creates pours off the needles.

Calista thanked the old woman for the wine pouring into her glass. She chuckled, remembering her days as a professor. Oh, the wine she drank. At the old woman's question, she hesitated bringing the glass to her lips for a moment, then resumed. She sipped slowly, looking out into the darkness.
"Myself, mostly." She said, her voice distant. "I need to get out and about again, start new." She snapped back to reality and took another quick sip of the red wine. It was so smooth and fragrant, definitely a top 5 for her.

Agatha nods. "Not to bad a place to start new. I could think of many worse."
She parks her knitting briefly, to pick up her glass and take a drink. Then she sets it back again, picks up the knitting, and the needles fly.
"I came here for one myself. Years back now. Decades, actually. Found I liked it. Kids keep me young. And the odds that go on around here keep things interesting."
Chuckling, she knits furiously for a moment, then the knitted cloth heaves, and drops away. It sits for a moment, heaving, then it sprouts legs and scrambles away. Agatha just casts on again, and keeps knitting.
"Yep, sure keeps a woman young."

Calista watches the woman work, her hands moving much smoother than one would have thought for her age. Sipping her wine she nods. "That it does. I was a professor about 10 years ago. It feels like decades." She looked out at the starlight night, the crickets pausing and then picking up their song again. Her attention was drawn back to the cloth as it sprouted legs and ran off. "Interesting yarn you have there." She said, watching as Agatha kept on with her knitting as if her last piece hadn't just taken off from her lap on it's own.
"Staying young would be grand, though I think sometimes I am older than my years from everything I have seen. It makes one wonder how much more there is to experience." She polished off the wine and poured herself another glass, offering to top off Agatha's glass. "What odds go on around here?" Now she was curious. She was always up for a bit of excitement, even moreso after being hidden away at the estate.

Agatha humfs. "It's wool, mostly. A little silk or angora when I can be bothered. The skill comes in the knitting. Did you ever learn to knit, girl?"
She knits some more. Silent for a moment, then she sips more wine before wiping her mouth to respond.
"Muggles say this island is haunted. While that's not strictly true, things do happen here. Mostly it's young wizard magic going astray, but sometimes strange things do rear their heads. This is an old place, and we chose it for the camp because of the haunted reputation. To keep ordinary folk away."
The.knitted lump comes back, lugging a small flat metal box. Agatha reaches down to take it, and the knitted creature heaves a great sigh, then falls into a tangled mess, its magic exhausted. Agatha opens the cigarette case, takes a cigarette out, and lights it with a touch of her wand, sighing happily as she smokes. She kinda gets a social conscience and offers the case to Calista.
"Smoke, dear?"

Calista shook her head at the woman's question. "No, I never did. My mother wasn't into those sorts of things. I never knew my grandparents. My aunt and uncle were musical types." Her eyes watched the cloth come back and deflate from its magic loss. "It does look complicated yet easy when you do it." She sipped her wine.
"Ah children, always stirring things up. It's the other things that make me paranoid." She chuckled. "It sounds like life here for the next three months will be anything but dull. I look forward to it." Calista thanksed the woman and took a cigarette. She didn't do it much, but she still did it. "Thank you. May I have a light, my wand is inside." She said, snorting with a bit of humor. She sometimes wondered how muggles did this stuff. She knew that it resulted in a lot of missing lighters. But that was all.

"Children are a gift. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. As for the other things .. we've never had a fatality here, so don't get too paranoid."
She reaches out with her wand, and lights Calista's cigarette, then puts it away again, continues knitting.
"There's gonna be a campfire early in the week. Gets people talking, pulls down a few barriers related to shyness and such. Kids like it. I kinda find them fun, too, you sing at all? Play any instruments? It's always good to add music."

Calista draws on the cigarette, its deep, rich smoke relaxing her. She exhales and looks to the lantern, more moths had gathered, trying to get to the flame. A few u lucky souls lay scattered beneath it on the wood planks, victims of the glass.
"I look forward to the fire. I am sure it will help me loosen up as well. I played piano as a girl but thus far my only experience with music has been running an entertainment district. I am sure I can come up with something though." She smirked, thinking for a bit.
"How against giving the children a little fright are you? Just for fun. Scary at first and then revealed as anything but a threat." Her green eyes danced in the light like a cat's.

Agatha listens, nods, smokes.
"Some might say a piana isn't what bonfires call for, but we can fix something I'm sure. And, lass, this is a summer camp. If we didn't give the kids a good scare now and then, what would they have to remember and tell stories about in their old age?"
She laughs.

Calista smiled with a sly edge to it. "Well then, I think I can come up with something." She takes a long drag on the cigarette, thinking. How many animagi do we have around here that you know of?" She asks, seemingly deep in thought. What a show that could be. "We could make it the best bonfire yet, provided they don't try to collect my hide." Her eyes danced and she laughed, looking at the old witch.
"Hopefully better memories than I will have thus far going into my late years. Personally, I never liked piano anyway." She said, shrugging. Her aunt had made it a point to teach her, and although Calista picked upon it quickly, it was never her die hard obsession or hobby.

"So, you shift, eh? That could be interesting. Dont know of anyone else but me right now. What's your shape?"
Agatha lit another cigarette, refilled their glasses, then went back to her knitting. She kinda liked this young witch. She didn't mind a drink, or s smoke. And now she was an animagus. All good points in her book. Showed a sense of self, and a commitment to what was wanted.
She smoker, and knitted, and waited for her answer.

Calista smiled and nodded, pulling her hair back to reveal her right ear, a small notch missing but it was evident. "Black panther. Green eyes and this. Its one reason I wear my hair down. It's on the registry." She said letting her locks fall back down to cover it. "So any large black cats with that, you will have an idea."
Calists looked back to thw witch. It wasn't often she met another animagus.
"May I ask yours?" She said politely, not wanting to offend the old Witch.

"Cat, eh. Cool. British Wildcat. Not as big, but not to be underestimated either." Agatha chuckles, as if it's some private joke. Maybe it is, because there's no such species - if Calista knows her big cat breeds.
The old witch continues to smoke.
"So, when it gets dark, you show yourself. I'll pretend you're natural, and safe, then you can pret me to attack, and give the kids a scare. Sound good?"
She's still chuckling.

Calista looked at the woman. "That's...something new." She said, quirking a brow. "I can say that I am curious." She said. Watching the old woman do her craft and listening to her proposition she laughed.
"That sounds perfect. Especially for tbe youngest of the campers. Consider it entertainment as well as a lesson?" She cast her gaze back out towards he darkness. "This summer is going to be quite the interesting one. I hope more campers show soon." She said, sighing.

Agatha cackles. Yep. Cackles. Rubs her hands. "We's gonna have some fun, you and I." And she sits back to drink and smoke, until one of her knitted creations comes to tug on her skirt.
"Sorry, that's my reminder. Must go. But if we don't speak before, I'll see you at the campfire."
Agatha struggles to her feet, picks up her knitting, leaving the rest of the wine behind, and staggers off.

Calista smiled at the old woman, her cackle bringing her out of her daze. "I look forward to it, Agatha." She said, watching the knitted piece urge the old woman to go. "I shall look forward to it."
Calista sat for a moment, watching her head off. Finally getting up, she turned the lantern off and headed inside the cabin. It was going to be an interesting summer, indeed.
