Hello, Peeves! I have a historical question today.
How has the status of House Elves changed in Britain since the war, and what is their status in America? Especially of concern is their use of wands. With Hermione Granger herself in such a position of power in Britain as head of the DMLE, has she forced through changes in the wand laws? I would think that she would. That's only Britain, though.
I had a random idea for a House Elf character, basically, and wondered if it might work.

House Elves can't use wands, they aren't wizards or witches, they have their own little powers.

Ah, so to clarify, you're going with wands as human mage-only? Even if they had access, elves and goblins would find the wands not responding to their wills?

Yeah same as humans, the wand would reject them and backfire. It's best if only witches/wizards use it, it helps separate the species and genres.

That's probably a hot-button political issue, with the goblin position that mages are specifically crafting wands that won't work for other types of being, when goblin-attuned wands should be possible... Hm. Perhaps I'll just have Quinn supporting currently-inconclusive research into the use of wands by non-mages.

Yes, I was thinking of the implication throughout the books that with the right training and access to a wand, elves can cast the same spells as mages. In terms of Hogwarts by Night I believe Helena is overruling that implication.
This is all the more fair, because an elf PC with wand-access would be overpowered compared to mage PCs and others, unless they were fluffed as a particularly weak elf who could only use wanded magic. And then, what would be the point, really?

well not so much overruling it really, just not lifting the ban as it may help keep balance in the game.

I would also think elves wouldn't want to use one anyway. Since they can just snap their fingers.

I wouldn't be comfortable with a house elf PC. We have enough classes already.
and I agree with wands being only for witches and wizards.
