The sun had gone down about an hour ago and after Aisha's weekend with Ambrose she wanted to speak with Mary again. She had gathered question's up over the week before and she wondered if Mary would give her any answers. She knew the woman was secretive that was no doubt in her mind but she wanted to sate her curiosity none the less. They shared a good time at tea last week and she found herself wanting a friend. As she walked the long corridors down into the dungeons, she wondered if Mary would be around.
She knew that once night settled Mary was able to come out, she wondered if she slept like a human would, or if her body forced her to just shut down. Maybe she ran into the shadows she came from to hide away from the sun. All questions. Finally making it down past the kitchens she found the room that belonged to the Professor. She knocked on the door as it wasn't open yet and waited to see if Mary would answer this night or not.

It took a moment before the door was answered. It creaked open just slightly, and a face peeked out. It was Mary. She smiled at Aisha, and opened the door wider. "Ah, Aisha ... I can call you that, yes? ...I thought it might be a student, and they know to give me some space after dusk. Please, come in, make yourself comfortable." Professor Kestrel's office isn't what one might expect of a vampire. It's comfortable, homey, old fashioned and neat. Like an old English home. There's a fireplace with two armchairs facing in front of it, a desk in the corner, lots of bookshelves filled with books, and trinkets from all sorts of places and times. But it's the shadows that are different here. They seem alive, and darker than anywhere else in the castle, almost solid. Mary is wearing this (below), but in black. Her skin is perfect, and deathly pale beneath the lace, he long black hair is unbound and swaying gently as she moves, She shows Aisha to one of the chairs by the fire. There's already a kettle sitting in the coals, heating, and a teapot and cups on the small table nearby.

Aisha smiled as the door opened and Mary met her, she looked like she had just stepped out of bed. "Oh dear, I hope I am not interrupting." She took in Mary's outfit and then the room. "I am not sure which looks better. You or your office." She laughed softly as she came into the room and shut the door behind her. "I figured you would want the door shut. I hope you don't mind."
Aisha heads towards the fire place that had the chairs Mary pointed out. "Yes, yes please call me Aisha, all those I call friend do dear." She smiled and took a seat. "I think I came calling to early. Do you need a minute? I don't mind waiting dear." She was calm and polite she really had hoped she didn't interrupt her.
She wasn't sure what Mary's schedule involved when she was waking up. If that is what it was called. She still wasn't sure.

Mary smiles, and picks up the kettle to pour tea. It smells fragrant and strong, possibly and earl grey.
"It's quite alright. No, you are not interrupting. Yes, do shut the door. Thank you, Aisha. No, I do not need a minute. I have just taken my time this evening. It is, after all, still the weekend, and time to relax."
She hands Aisha a cup of tea, then pours herself a goblet full of dark red liquid from a heavy green bottle, and sits in the chair opposite the witch.
"There," she smiles, sips, relaxes. "How was your weekend?"

Aisha enjoying the smell of the tea Mary had brewing took the cup and held it in her hands. "This tea smells lovely." She watched her pour herself a goblet of deep red liquid, to which Aisha assumed was blood. She made no mention of it and didn't make any outwardly signs that it bothered her in the slightest. In all honesty it didn't, Mary stated before she was a vampire and that is what vampires did is it not? She had seen her fair of things, though nothing like this, but she always had an open mind to different ways of life and this was Mary's. Who was she to come in and judge.
She offered a smile as Mary sat down to join her. "I had a good weekend. Spent time out in Hogsmeade with Ambrose. We had a lovely time." She smiled and had a spark in her eye as she spoke mentioned her weekend. "And how was your weekend dear?"

Mary smiles, as if perhaps enjoying a private joke, "Oh, it was smashing, thank you." She sips her 'wine', stretching out her legs and wiggling her toes at the fire.
Just how lovely a time did they have, she wondered. And was his offer of a bite sometime still open? Ambrose fascinated Mary, and not just because he was living breathing LSD. He was .. or at least seemed to be .. kind, caring, genuinely concerned for those around him. And that book ... she shook her head, looked back to Aisha.
"So, Ambrose, eh? How was that?"

Aisha drinks a sip of the tea and the flavor is delicious. She smiles and looks up again as Mary seems to be warming her toes by the fire. "It was a good weekend. He is a kind and caring, I hope after the weekend we had he realizes that he doesn't need to be so hidden from everyday life. He seems so shy and quiet when he doesn't need to be. He has a wonderful spirit inside of him. He just needs to let it shine." She smiled taking another sip of the tea.
"I enjoyed our tea time last we spoke. I hope you enjoyed yourself as well. It left me with a week full of curiosities I must say."

Mary nods as Aisha speaks, clearly agreeing with the other woman's assessment of his character.
"Good. He needs to get out more. He's a lovely fellow. Useful, too. helped resolve a problem with one of the other professors. A little while back."
She takes a drink from her goblet, reaching for the bottle to refill it.
"Yes, I enjoyed our tea time, too, Questions? Oh, yes! Of course! And I have one for you, too." She sits up a little straighter. "I'm partner in a nightclub opening in London at the beginning of June. My co-partner asked if I could source girls for the opening. You know, dancers, courtesans, prostitutes, submissives ... the whole range. And of course, I immediately thought of you. Payment and conditions to be negotiated, of course, but ideally they should be open to vampires wishing to feed. It's sort of that kind of club." She smiles, letting Aisha absorb the question.

Aisha listened as Mary spoke about this club. "The girls are pretty much open-minded about anything and everything. Only a few have restrictions. I am sure I can send a owl out and have some that would have no problem taking part in this opening. I am intrigued now as well." She laughed. "I would presume that the girl's will be well compensated if they become food and none will have any permanent harm to them." She paused a moment thinking.
"It would be ashamed to loose them, it is so hard to find such open-minded girls these days. There are some boy's that would enjoy such a thing as well if that is something you and your partner are interested in as well."
She took a sip of her tea again. "As for payment that can be discussed later once I know what girl's or boy's wish to join. The minor details of it all." Aisha smiled answering the questions.

Mary seems surprised at the mention of owls. Hmm, boys, yes, also needed ... but owls?
"Are your girls all witches?"
Right now, that was the biggest question in her mind. This was a vampire club, she didn't want to populate it with witch bait.

"Oh no dear, they are not all witches. Just a handful of them are. My main contact is a witch, she is who all my contact goes through. None of my boys are wizards either. The majority are the group are muggles. If you prefer no witches, that can be arranged as well." She responded politely

Mary nods, relaxing.
"I want to avoid complications. While wizard blood isn't like fairy or werewolf blood, it would be best I think not to risk causing friction between wizards and vampires."
She sips her drink.
"As for compensation .. of course. And perhaps they can wear some sort of ID so the vampires know not to harm your people. I'll speak with my partner. Mr D can cope with that, I'm sure. And yes, boys too. We ladies also like charming company!" She giggles a little.
"It's been a while since I've enjoyed nuzzling and nibbling on the neck of a willing victim." She smiles, drinking more from her cup. While the taste of fear was attractive, so was the taste of lust.

"Very well dear, that can be arranged then. As for ID's, I don't have labels for them, but I can have them in a certain attire that marks them in a uniform of sorts. I doubt they would want, 'Hi my name is...and I am your food.' Labeled on them" She laughed at the thought. "Though that would be a hysterical sight to see, they may not take kind to it."
She takes another sip of tea and stretches just a bit to adjust her seat.

Mary laughs out loud at the "I am your food" comment, nearly spluttering her 'wine' in the process.
"No, we wouldn't want that! I was thinking more like a specifically coloured bracelet or neckband, but a uniform works fine. I'll ask D and see what he would prefer."
She reaches for the teapot, offers to top up Aisha's tea.
"So, you said you had questions?"

Aisha enjoyed the laughter they shared for a moment. "A neckband might not be a bad idea either. Let me know what this Mr. D says and I will let them know."
She held her cup out to Mary as she topped it off. "Thank you dear." She took in the scent and smiled.
"Ah, yes I did. I was on the track of thinking about different cultures and ethnicity and I wondered if vampires had something similar, or if they were all the same type? If there was a type to be had. Then when you opened the door, I started to think about if your kind slept the same way." She rambled quickly through her last line as her thoughts started to come back to the questions that she had for Mary.
She only hoped that she wasn't speaking to fast and her accent wasn't to heavy that the woman would understand her.

Mary pours the tea, then tops up the pot from the kettle on the hearth. She listens to Aisha's questions.and gives them some thought before replying ...
"Vampires are as divided as all human sub-species. We have family lines drawn by blood, we have different religions different political beliefs. We come from all races of man, somaepre just as diverse."
She pauses, sipping her drink.
"But, no, we are not all the same. The first of us, from who we are descendant, were born with different abilities. These were passed down, almost flawlessly. So we have ... Clans." She smiles.
"As for sleeping ... we don't. For the time between dawn and dusk, we are as dead. Nothing will rouse us. Not noise or light or fire. So we tend to sleep apart, in places of safety. This is why I am generally not immediately available after dusk." She smiles.
"I came up early this night to send an owl. You were fortunate."

Aisha listened and took it all in as Mary explained the differences of the vampire races so to speak sipping her tea as she went on.
"So each vampire, then is able to track their line? Say to the first one? Does each line have it's own 'first' or are all vampires from one vampire? And have they been around as long as other humanoids?"
She took a breath. "Also, when your sleeping is described as dead, how are you able to rise again? Does your body just wake up like ours would then?"
She sipped her tea again. She was so curious about new things, ideas, ways of life that she never thought about anything other than sating it with finding the answers.

"We can all trace our blood back to Caine, who was the first vampire. I can name those between us." She pauses. "Not all vampire can, though. Some do not keep records, or even believe our history. And such is the reason for much of our division."
She sips from her cup before answering the next question.
"Not quite as yours would. You go from being asleep, to being roused, to being awake, but your thought process needs to catch up. We go from being awake, to being awake. There is no passage of time, no drowsiness, no need to clear our head. The sun sets, and we are awake."

Aisha understood she thought the division, but expressed her thoughts out loud on the matter. "Caine as in the Christian Biblical reference? The brother who killed his brother over favoritism I believe yes? Something alone those lines I believe is the story. As for the division it sounds similar to that of our kind. Religion separating many because no one can agree on anything and everyone has their own belief system, whether raised that way or came to that conclusion at some other point in their life.
Aisha nodded her head in understanding. "That must be nice, to not have the fog of waking up like us. Do you feel rested at least? In the same way that we would?"

"Rested, yes. Our bodies regenerate while we sleep. As for Caine, yes one and the same. He was cursed by God for killing his brother. Cursed to walk the earth forever. We descend from him directly. It is not a matter of faith, when he still walks even now. One section of our society lies to their childer, denying the first and our history, and the dangers the old ones really will bring. That is more our division."

"Astonishing that someone that old is still around today. Oh to pick that brain on the facts of history would be something." She was surprised that Caine still walked this earth. "How can one hide so well, even now when the population of the planet is now over seven billion people." She took a drink. "Oh yes, wait shadows. That would make sense, as you come from them and meld into them so easily. It must be the way it works." Her brain was working overtime making notes over their conversation.
"So even though the facts are there, some where along the line they wanted to what break free? Thus denying it while making more of them?" She could see the appeal in wanting to be free from any sect or group but then again being part of a family insured safety didn't it? "I would love to meet more of your kind. To watch from the background." She chuckled softly. "It would be intriguing to say the least."
Then she thought about her studies and asked a more rhetorical question meant for her mind. "I wonder if a vampire could be transfigured through a witches magic? Theories. I should write a paper and do some testing. Then I should.." She looked from the fire. "I am sorry, my academic mind takes over from time to time. What sort of powers does a vampire have? If you wish to share? That would be interesting seeing as you said their are different gifts, Maybe a sort of magical one? Even if a witch doesn't keep her own powers, do they have an equal gift on the vampire side to match her abilities when she was human?"
There were so many questions and each answer produced a new question, Aisha could only hope she didn't run Mary thin on her curiosity. It was an intriguing world though to say the least.

Mary smiles, shook her head, at all of Aisha's questions.
"So much so quickly! How about I answer a few to start ... when a witch or wizard is embraced ... that is, becomes a Vampire, all of their magic vanishes, to be replaced by whatever talents come with the blood they receive. This can vary widely. There are a few families that practice a type of ritual magic, fuelled by our blood, but they don't like to share. I know some rituals envoking the shadows, but find them tedious, so rarely use them."
She pauses, sips her drink. Looks at Aisha. "Some powers, apart from magic, like the abilities of a true seer, or other natural gifts, could possibly remain after embrace. But there is no surety."
"With regards to transformation, well I really don't know. Some of us can change shape to some degree using our own power. As for magic ,,, that would depend on if the magic considered us living or dead, I guess. And on the trust between the witch and Vampire to experiment. We ancient beings tend to be very cautious with our lives." Mary chuckles.

Drinking her tea she listened to Mary answer some questions and explain her answers. It was all stimulating to her and she enjoyed learning and absorbing the information given to her. "That would be an interesting study to find out whether natural born abilities move with you through the change, uh embrace" She made comments as the conversation went along.
"Living or dead" She wondered about that. If the applications could apply as the do for inanimate objects and animate objects just rearranging the spells. "I wonder if the words could be switched because both are animate objects, yet human, and human transfiguration is doable as is animal, so it could be possible." She was muttering to herself as she thought about the applications.
"Aside from that, can magic work on a vampire? Such as charms, potions, spells? And if they could work, could a vampire who was witch apply skill to say, potion making? Or in turn use such from an actual witch to help them with whatever the case could be? Would spells work on them or charms? Like say a love charm or a polly juice potion? Or even say spell to bind one to another?" She looked over at Mary as she asked the questions, she knew there were many of them just coming off her in waves.
"Please don't feel obligated to answer anything." She chuckled softly. "Everyone has secrets I understand that. I am just a curious bird" She smiled thinking about her falcon then for some reason. She was curious to say the least.

"If a spell or charm will work on a muggle, there is a good chance it will work on a Vampire. Similarly with using magic. If a Muggle could use an item or potion, then likely so could we. Making a potion requires a wand, so is beyond my ability. Though I still have my wand, I have no magic to channel through it. Only the power of my blood."
Mary sets down her goblet, and raises her hands, palm up. As she does so, all the shadows in the room come to life, and Mary herself begins to darken and flatten and slowly, from the hem of her dress upwards, she *becomes* shadow herself. A being of writhing darkness reaches down, and picks up the goblet she was holding before. It takes a drink, then sets it down again. She begins to float and flow, up to the ceiling, hanging over Aisha's head, before slowly returning to the seat across from Aisha, and reforming into Mary.
She shakes herself, smiles at Aisha, who is probably gaping in astonishment, maybe also scared silly (a Courage roll is normally required to witness this if you're not fsmilar with the power).
"Shadow and darkness, these ar my powers. Some read minds, or become animals, or control spirits, or shape flesh, or use blood magic as I have already mentioned. We are as many and varied as witches and wizards."

Aisha listened and once again took mental notes as she spoke, she wondered then if she turned someone would they have her power then? Or would they have someone else's due to their own blood? Or is their blood drained? And then......She stopped..Her train of thought lost as she dropped her tea cup and stared as Mary and the shadows in the room combined into a single being.
She gasped audibly and her jaw was dropped as she fumbled to find what emotion was running through her. Fear was the first one as her eyes grew large frozen though in shock and awe as she watched the woman pick up the goblet and drink again. Aisha trembled, she was frightened but her body wasn't responding, which in the recesses of her mind, in her sub conscious she was amazed at the ability. It was unlike anything she had every seen.
When she returned to her former state Aisha still had her mouth agape, her eyes unblinking as she stared. Mary's words registered some where in her mind but she still didn't have the capacity to speak, still stuck in her mind the form the vampiress just took. She wasn't shaking uncontrollably, but that tremble was still racking through her body, a sheen of sweat on her brow as she sat there.
Entranced was the best word to describe her current state.

For a moment, Mary just smiled. It wasn't a pleasant friendly smile, instead it was delight at the emotions she had induced. It was maleficence at its most beautiful. Then, Mary was smiling a normal smile, and reaching out to pat Aisha's hand.
"Are you all right, Aisha?" she asked calmly,
At about that moment, a small blob of shadow detached itself from near Mary's skirts, grew legs and a tail, and curled up catlike on the hearth.

Aisha seemed to snap out of her semi like daze as Mary patted her hand. The cold touch was a welcome to her suddenly over heated body. She needed to wipe her brow she though as she looked at Mary. "I...Uh....just.." She stumbled on the words for a moment. "Yes, yes I am sorry." She cleared her throat and looked down to realize she had dropped her cup. "Wow." Was all she could think of for words at the moment as she watched the shadowy figure once more come out. She had met him the first night she had tea with Mary.
"I..I am sorry" She took a breath "about the mess." She smiled sheepishly as she looked from the cup back to Mary. "Um.." She wanted to know if everyone she herself embraced had that ability but she couldn't find the words to ask any more questions. Her heart still thumped in her ear like the deep base of music playing inside of her.

Mary picks up the teacup, but doesn't fret over the spilled tea. She places the cup back on the table, then refills it, setting it into Aisha's hands once again.
"I hope I didn't startle you too greatly. An overdone party trick, nothing more. Though I do enjoy the brief moments of nothingness, and weightlessness."
She wondered if she really missed being a witch, she was never an amazing witch, only barely passing her exams. Holding onto a broom scared her, she remembered, and transfiguration never came easily. She was stronger, now. Had more power at her fingertips. Being a witch had been a life she did not miss, the magic wasn't amazing. But her dsughters, they were amazing. She would never regret staying to raise them.

Aisha took the cup graciously and took a long drawn sip of the hot liquid. It felt good running down her parched throat. "I am alright. Thank you." She smiled then and nodded to Mary. "Party trick or not it was unexpected and still quite amazing if I may say so. The implications of one can do with shadows seems endless. Shadows are everywhere."
She looked at the cat curled by the fire for a moment lost in thought. In a soft voice almost with hesitation she asked the question. "Does everyone you embrace obtain that ability?" She found her voice again and continued her extended question. "And does that apply to any vampire embracing one? They receive their power? Sort of like genes passed from parent to child?"

Mary watches Aisha carefully, watches as she glances at Balthazar, then back again.
"Yes, those I embrace gwin this power ... in time. I am very old, and have had a lot of time to develop my abilities. And yes, we each pass down the abilities within our blood. But far more reliable than parent to child. There is only one set of 'DNA' involved, so traits don't skip generations, they are passed faithfully."
She murmers to the cat on the hearth. It looks up at her, almost indignant st being disturbed, then gets up, and vanishes into the shadow beneath Mary's chair.
"So, dear, tell me more about yourself. You have ability with shape changing. What else drives your curiosity? Besides me!" She laughs a little at her last comment.
