Aisha had to get her class in order for the students. It would not be long before she would be giving them exams. She needed to make sure that each student had what they needed to move forward. She wondered if any of the current students had questions for her after she posted the exam review on the door. She knew that they didn't have a full time Professor previously so she wondered who taught while they were waiting to fill the position. Maybe she should send an owl to the Head Mistress and find out what the students know. It would be easier to have that knowledge up front.
As she used her wand and put things in place, she reading her classroom and office with her personal items. Things that she would hope the students would enjoy practicing on. With rows of different items lining the walls, from tissue boxes for first years all the way to steal boxes for the students taking the NEWTS. She would of course have other things for those students as well but having items to practice on was a good start.
The Professor stood in her classroom with a nod of her head at the organized space about her. She liked the colors she brought in as well, bright reds and purples lining the classroom in various places. She liked to have color, a drab room just didn't suit her. Turning into her Animagi she flew up to a perch she placed at the front of the class, awaiting to see if anyone would need her today.

Chalice had been wandering and looking for something to do. She noticed that the Transfiguration room had movement so she wandered close by and peered into the room. She saw the new professor moving things around and getting it setup. Chalice quietly watched as the space took on a more cheerful atmosphere. Perhaps she would be able to figure out some of the details with the new teacher. This was her worst class and perhaps she could get some help to figure out why it wasn't going well.
As she watched, the professor turned into a bird. Chalice dropped her books and stared with wonder. She...just couldn't help herself. She ran into the room with wonder. She started to concentrate then stopped, Professor Pendragon said that magical creatures didn't communicate the same. She was sure that a wizard that was an animagi communicated VERY differently than her other animals. "Um...Professor?!? That was amazing." She clapped and then remembered what she wanted to ask. "Could you teach me that? I ... I love animals." Ok, that was not what she wanted to ask.

Aisha looked over to the student as she walked into the room, her mouth seemingly agape to her. She smiled and dropped in a single movement down to the floor and went back into her own natural form straightening her robes before responding to the student "Thank you dear. As for teaching that. It takes many years and a lot of studying. Ah, but you could learn if you wanted and had the knack for Transfiguration." She pulled out her wand and called the dropped books to a table near by. "Accio books" She looked at the student. She hadn't yet knew who was who seeing as it was only her second day here.
"So tell me, do you have a knack for this class?" She smiled warmly down to the child standing before her, her tie stating she was Ravenclaw.

Chalice looked to the Professor and tried to close her mouth. It took some time as the fluid change made her want to clap again. She held her hands to prevent that impulse from becoming reality. "Um, this is my hardest class. I always feel like I'm hurting the animals. Th..they chatter a bit and I never want to hurt them. Max did tell me that it didn't hurt and I was able to get permission from one mouse to try."
Chalice looked away a bit shy as she didn't know if she was to tell her teachers about her ability. Professor Pendragon only knew because she had tried to talk to the Moke. Chalice looked back at the teacher, "I understand the physical aspect of the process. The animals talking all at once kind of distracts me from concentrating. I didn't understand the viciousness aspect and perhaps we hadn't gotten to that yet in our studies. My ebony wand is a bit ... self thinking as we haven't bonded yet."
Chalice looked hopeful as she just unloaded an entire list of concerns.

Professor Ria stood there looking over the girl as she spoke about talking to the animals. She was curious to say the least. She knew of other's that had been able to communicate with them in the past but that had been some time. Changing animals for a first year wasn't always the easiest of things either. She wondered what had been taught to the child. She walked over to one of the lined shelves and pulled down a tissue box and walked back towards the student. Placing the box down she looked to the child.
"You understand the equation that goes into the physical aspect. Have you instead worked perhaps on just inanimate objects? Animals can come later, there is much more to changing animate objects."
She smiled softly to the student. "It doesn't hurt the animal no but I can understand why you wouldn't want to change what they are. So we can wait until you are ready and have a better grasp on them and your wand." She motioned to the girl's ebony wand in her hand. "You will need you wand to work with you and bond with you when you are ready and comfortable enough to move onto the animate objects. So, let me see you turn this tissue box into a mouse." She smiled and stepped back to watch the student work. "Remember it is first a tissue box dear."

This was Chalice's worst subject. Mostly because all the teachers talked about changing animals into items. They never suggested it could work the other way around. She could make more animals? That is great. Now, what was the formula again. "One part of the equation is Body-weight. This helps to determine the size of the object we can turn the item into. I doubt I can turn this tissue box into a toy poodle?" She asked the professor. Chalice picked up the tissue box. It was light and full of soft tissues, like mouse fur. She smiled as she thought about turning soft tissue into fur.
"Another part of the equation is wand power. This has me concerned as my wand seems to have a thought of it's own. I haven't fully bonded with her yet. I call her Lilith because she was a strong women of independent spirit." She took out her wand and smiled. It was a lovely ebony darkwood wand of 8 3/8 inches. "It has the a Chimera tongue inside. My brother said it choose me because I always speak my opinions regardless if they are accepted or not." She smiled shyly at the professor.
"The next part of the equation deals with concentration. I'm good at this part because it takes some concentration for me to focus on one animal at a time when they speak. Sometimes they like to chatter all at once when they are in groups and I have to separate them one at a time to figure it out." She smiles and says quietly, "Do you know how hard it is to talk to a group of baby bunnies?"
"The last two parts of the equation are difficult for me to understand. The first being viciousness. How is a tissue box or mouse vicious? Which part do I look to the vicious component?" It seemed this was the real issue Chalice was having trouble with her transfiguration. Her connection to animals didn't allow her to see them as vicious or dangerous. Granted, she had never been near any animals that were on the dangerous levels declared by the Ministry. She had never gone to a zoo because the noise caused her such pain from all the animals. She didn't realize that was the problem at the time, but it kept the family away from most areas that had large gatherings of animals.
"Professor, how are we to understand the unknown component? It's ... well unknown." Chalice looked to the professor excited to figure out how to clear her inability to grasp this topic. She wanted so much to change into her favorite animals. This was preventing that from being a reality.

Professor Ria watched as the student spoke, not interrupting her train of thought. She seemed to answer her own questions at first as she was getting her mind in the right place.
"The size does determine how small or large you make something, so you are right in saying a toy poodle is a bit larger than this box I have placed here." The professor was proud the child seemed to understand the concept of what she was doing and sadden by the fact that she wasn't taught first to change inanimate objects before changing an actual live animal especially given her gift. Aisha chuckled softly at the comment of the group of bunnies. "I can only imagine dear." She smiled down at the girl as she continued to speak.
"I can understand the confusion with viciousness. Let us look at the word as not if the animal is vicious or not, but rather that viciousness is your intent. How much intent you put into the spell. For something as basic as this transform we will use little intent or mild as it is not anything large. It is the simple turning of a box into a mouse." She was glad the girl was breaking down each part of the equation but didn't understand why over the entire year no one had helped her to understand each part.
"As for the unknown component, it is unknown because it all depends on everything else you put into the spell. If any part of the other three parts are off than the unknown portion causes the spell to fail. For example you could have a box with ears and a tail but not actually a mouse. In which case it just takes practice, should it come out like that, you can simply say Reparifarge to fix it." She put a hand on the girl's shoulder and looked down at her. "Also do not forget to make clear and decisive wand movements nothing unnecessary will be required in the spell itself." She wouldn't mention that she also could just cast Untransfiguration but that was a lesson for much older students to master.
"Now, let us see you put this to use dear. I have complete faith in you."

Chalice listened carefully to Professor Ria's instructions. She thought about what should would like to change the box into. Perhaps a fluffy bunny. She closed her eyes and pictured the bunny in her mind. She thought about it's size and how much she wanted to play with a bunny. Chalice concentrated on the equation and what was needed to make the bunny. She thought of it's soft white fur and long ears. A smile played upon her face as she thought about the big back feet and how they liked to thump on the ground.
Chalice looked at the box, her fear replaced by the excitement of holding the little bunny. She took out her wand and practice the movements. She made sure that her grip was light, but firm on her ebony wand. She took a deep breath and then she taps the box with the wand three times. She concentrates and speaks the incantation. As Chalice watches with amazement her transfiguration starts slowly but turns into a small bunny.
She looks to the Professor, "It's adorable." She then tried to talk to it, but felt nothing. Her eyes locked with the bunny and then looked to Professor Ria, "Did I do something wrong?"

Professor Ria stood back watching as the young student focused. She smiled inwardly as she seemed to actually take the lesson seriously. As she flicked her wrist and waved her wand and spoke the words, Aisha stood back smiling.
The small rabbit was perfect. Not a single trace of the object it once was. Professor Ria moved towards the student and picked up the rabbit and turned it over in her hand checking it over. "My dear, I must say there is nothing wrong. You did a splendid job." She smiled and set the rabbit back down on the table.
Aisha thought for a moment about their conversation. The child had an ability to talk with the animals. Maybe this was the issue? She herself didn't have that ability but maybe she could help her. "I think you are referring to the fact you can't talk to the animal dear, you must remember it wasn't born this way. It was an object, no animation to it at all. No life source to it, not though process. This is why I suggested turning objects first. They are simply objects no matter what you turn them to."
She smiled and pulled her wand out casting the Untransfiguration spell. The rabbit turned back into the small box. "See, this is it's original form dear." She looked down to the student. She had no doubt the child understood but she didn't know if they child could comprehend the ramifications of it.
"I have an idea." Professor Ria turned and went to a small cage at the front of the class. She pulled out a small rat giving it a small treat. Bringing it to the desk she sat it down. "Here, talk to her. I want you to change her though into that box." She point to the box that the student worked on previously. "I know it is hard to concentrate on a live animal. Talk to her, tell her what you are doing. Change her, see if you can still have a connection of some sort. Remember just because you are changing her it doesn't mean she wasn't born a living animal." She smiled and looked down at the rat.
"Just remember that I can change her back at any point and she wont be hurt." She wondered if turning the animal would even cause it to be heard as the box itself, she herself wasn't sure, she wasn't even sure if that had ever been approached but it was a theory now in her head and she wanted to test it with this student's incredible gift.

Chalice nodded, sad that she couldn't speak to her new rabbit friend. She understood. It wasn't really a rabbit, but looked like one. She nodded as the professor explained how a form is in it's original form and the differences. This made sense but saddened her as the new friends wouldn't be able to talk to her.
She watched as the Professor got the little mouse. She hadn't seen this one yet and was excited to learn it's name. chalice looked up at the Professor and nodded. "Ok, I'll let her know." Chalice concentrated, but didn't have to try to hard. Rats were one of her first animals that she talked to out on the moors back home. She smiled and looked to the little one and began speak to it's mind. "Hello, I'm chalice. What's your name?....Oh it's Bart. Well it's nice to meet you. Welcome to our school and class....(Chalice nodded)...yes, I understand it's frustrating. That is why I wanted to ask your permission....no really, may I please try to change you into a box...I promise it will be only for a little while....yes, a tasty treat will be given after we finish working together. (Chalice smiled)."
She turned to Professor Ria. "Bart says it is upsetting when others don't ask. He was thankful for my asking and would be glad to help. Is there a tasty treat when we are done for him?" She smiles as she notices the treat area. Chalice pets Bart and places him on her table, "I promise to be gentle with my wand" she told Bart. Very gently she tapped his head and spoke the words.
Once he was changed into the box, Chalice tried to talk to him, "Bart...oh thank you...How does it feel when I touch the box....really your sure your ok...(silent tears form on her cheeks)...thank you for easing my mind Bart. I'll change you back." She quickly but gently tapped the box once again and he turned back into his lovable self. She reached out to him and brought him to her cheek. she kiseed him on the head and got him a treat before returning him to his room.
"Thank you Professor, I..I never would have gotten this on my own."

Professor Ria smiled wide, she was happy for the student. "Ms. Storm I think you did a marvelous job. You overcame your fear of hurting them, you took the time to understand and finally managed to change Bart, not just into the box but also back to his form. You haven't learn that spell yet. We don't teach first years the untransfiguration spell. The theory is there, but you did that by yourself."
Aisha really was astounded by the student. "50 points to Ravenclaw for your ability to over come your fear and showing me that even when an animal is turned it is still cognitive in the other form."
"You are ready for your exams. I look forward to watching you in a couple of weeks dear to see how you have come to master this class." She smiled softly.

Chalice smiled brightly, "It really helped to have the details worked out. My main fear was hurting them. Thank you so much. I'm ready." Chalice took her books, "I'll see you later."
She felt a weight lifted off her. She was so excited that she couldn't wait to tell her brother.
