The Transfiguration classroom has changed. The desks have all been moved off to the sides allowing students to come in and work on their practical portions of their exams. Off the classroom are doors opened to their own small courtyard for students later on in years to work in a larger space that the classroom doesn't provide. Along the walls once were the items needed for teaching class now those shelves were empty.
She had a cage for mice that she tended to year around for the first years. Her second years would be transfiguring the cages of larger rabbits. She only had a few of them, so they would have to take turns. Her third year students will be taking the statues she had lined up along the desks and using their learned spells on them. (Lapifors Spell & Draconifors Spell) She will be watching wand movements as well as their precise words and finished spell to see if they executed it correctly. Her fourth years will be working with boxes set up right outside the classroom, she was going to see if they could correctly do a cross-switch transfiguration. Her fifth years would be doing their OWLS after their practical portion was done and she would send them off to the hall with other fifth years. They were going to be working out in the garden as well. She had set up a few kittens with the help of the grounds keeper, Hagrid, they would be executing the vanishing spell.
Her sixth year students needed to be outside as well. They were going to be conjuring up the bird charm. Time would tell if they could do it correctly of not. Her seventh years would be working on human transfiguration. She wouldn't have them change their entire appearance unless they were sure, and she knew which ones would be able to and which ones wouldn't be able to. She had studied them over the last several weeks and read up on their school profiles. None the less they were all able to cast the spell and work with in their means. They were NEWTS after all.
Professor Ria is leaning against her desk, a book in hand. She took to writing in a journal over the last several weeks of different events and with a bit of help from a friend, she used blood magic to bind the journal so no one could open it. She was waiting for the first of her students to arrive and complete their exams.

Victoire had had enough time to worry about her NEWTs, she had practiced. Even got a little extra help from Professor Ward. Before practicing the incantation on her own again. So she was as ready as she could be and today was the day. Before going into the room she went over her notes again she had made on the incantation. before letting out a breath as she walked into the room. Giving Professor Ria a smile, "Afternoon Professor, where would you like me?"
Might as well get it over with, Vic loved learning but that didn't mean she liked the tests, even if she did well on some of them. But she knew this one and charms would be her better exams.

Professor Ria smiled up as a student walked in. "Good Afternoon Ms. Weasley. You will be outside today in the courtyard. Only your wand is allowed with you. Your practical exam will be the Bird-Conjuring Charm." She lead her NEWT student outside to the courtyard. "Remember I will be watching your wand movements as well as the spell itself. I will not be able to help you. You are on your own dear, but I have faith in your skills."
Aisha stood to the side of the courtyard, she knew Ms Weasley excelled. Her being accepted into the NEWTS meant she had a knack for this now she would see if the 6th year Ravenclaw was up for the challenge.

Victoire gave the Professor a nod as she placed her bag beside the Professor's desk. Would have been simpler to leave it in her dorm but Victoire did not like going places without her bag of books. Just like she did not like going without her wand. She just did not feel like herself. With her wand in hand, she followed Professor Ria to the courtyard. It wasn't until Professor started to tell her what she expected, that her nerves got to her again. But her vote of confidence helped to ease those away. She gave the Professor a nervous smile as she was left in the middle of the courtyard by herself.
This was transfiguration, no different than any other day. At least, that is what she told herself. As she remembered the advice Professor Ward had given her. Once she had it clear in her head what she wanted Vic held up her wand, making the bird motion as she said, "AH-viss." Getting the three birds she wanted along with being accompanied by the blast and smoke. Making Victoire feel very proud of herself but also kicking herself because she had let herself get nervous before hand. She let the birds fly around before making them vanish. Looking back at Professor Ria, "I know you will probably make me wait, but can I get a little hint at how I did?" She always hated waiting on the results almost as much as being tested on the material.

Professor Ria smiled at the student as she perfected the wand movement. She seemed nervous at first but finally those nerves subsided as she took her stance and concentrated on her task. She watched as each bird made a pop like sound almost exploding from the wand. Only 3? She was surprised to be honest, she would of thought the Ravenclaw could of produced an entire flock, that was the purpose of the charm. But three was better than none or only one.
"You did well dear. Your wand movements were perfectly executed. But that is all the hint you get from me dear as we wait for the other students to finish their exams as well." She nodded her head and went to move back inside looking over her shoulder at the student. "Good luck on the rest of your exams dear."

Jillian stood just outside the classroom, trying to gather her nerves. Every few minutes she patted her robes at her waist, double and triple checking that she actually had her wand on her despite the fact that it was always kept in its custom holder on her belt. She shuffled to the front of the line of fifth year ravenclaws, in order to peer into the room. She could just see her older classmates in the courtyard but despite her strained attempts she could not see how well they had done.
"Calm down.." She told herself, not minding any of the looks she got from her fellow ravenclaws, most of whom had accepted her occasional eccentric behavior by now and were in any case all too busy running the spell through their own minds anyway. "It is bad luck to have vanishing as your O.W.L. but you've practised this lots."
Like many ravenclaws, she had heard of McGonagall's well respected answer to the question about where vanished objects go. It was something that often played on her mind when she thought about using vanishing spells on animals. She also couldn't help but remember back to her second year when her mind had gone entirely blank during the practical transmutation exam, fortunately she had been able to overhear one of her classmates nearby at the time and the spell had come back to her, allowing her to perform it perfectly, but she always felt she had lost marks for that long hesitation.

Victoire took the hint with a smile, she gave Professor Ria a nod, "Thank you." She would need her good luck wish when came to her History of Magic and Divination exams. Thankfully, she no longer had Muggle studies so that helped a lot. With her wand back in its holster she walked back to the classroom to grab her bag. Already, set on her plan of studying some more for her next exams. As she walked out of the room, she passed Jillian. She understood the nerves because she had them herself. So she offered the younger student a smile as she said, "Don't over-think it, you'll be great." She turned when she heard someone shout her name, looking back at Jillian, she gave the girl a wink and another smile before jogging off to one her friends.

Professor Ria watched as students started to come in. She set up some on the tasks they needed to do, keeping eyes on each of them. She smiled softly as Ms. Weasley spoke to Ms. Penrose. It was good to see the older students help the younger ones. It spoke volumes to her. Several students did wonderful on their portions, others struggled but overall they all seemed to be passing in some degree. It was her fifth years she would pay most attention to. Their OWLS determined their choices of NEWTS and Professor Ria was always on the look out for exceptional students.
"Ms. Penrose, you are up dear." She smiled and walked towards the student. "Leave everything but your wand and come with me out into the courtyard." She walked out to the courtyard not looking back to see if the student was following. She expected her to be. "You will need to take on of the kittens over there." She pointed towards the small enclosure of kittens, all of different colors. "Pick one than come back over here. You will be doing the practical portion of the exam, the written part comes later." She looked at the Ravenclaw student. "Vanishing spell. I will be watching for wand movements. Good luck dear." She smiled and stepped aside for Ms. Penrose to begin her exam.

Jillian smiled after Victoire, the tension slightly less for the older students smile and kinds words. Once in the classroom she had taken off her belt as instructed, removing her wand from its place on it and laying the belt and all its pouches on the table indicated. She hesitated for a moment about removing the goggles she wore atop her head but decided to not to, surely the professor didn't mean them. They had no magic and without them she would just be more nervous after all.
Hurriedly she followed Professor Ria out into the courtyard, listening keenly to her instructions with almost rapt attention. Only the kittens out of the corner of her eye kept her from being entirely focused on the professors words. As Ria stepped aside Jillians anxiety rose once more, nervously she moved over towards the kittens, watching each one in turn. She knelt by the small enclosure for what seemed like a long moment as if she could not bring herself to take one of them up into her arms, but after a second one of them bounded towards her. It was a mackerel tabby cat with short whiskers and seemingly soft blue eyes. She peered at it as she carried it back across the courtyard admiring the soft brown of its fur.
Carefully she placed the kitten down. She worried for a moment that it would run off, but thankfully it did not. Stepping back she raised her wand and closed her eyes, steadying herself so the tip of it would stop shaking. She knew the spell, she told herself, she had practised hard and even purposely miscast it a couple of times on objects in order to understand exactly what could go wrong and why. She opened her eyes slowly and her wand was still, good. She knew she was probably taking more time than was intended but she was determined to get it right. She traced her wand through the practiced movements and called out "Evanesco," at the right moment. Before her the kitten had turned about to peer at one of the other students and the vanishing spell seemed to affect it in stages, first its tail disappeared, followed by its body, its head, its eyes and nose, finally ending with its whiskers blinking out of sight. The whole effect took only a second or two.
Jillian peered downwards, quite uncertain how that would count against her. She couldn't see a trace of fur but the cat hadn't vanished all at once. "P-Professor?" She turned nervous eyes to Professor Ria but wasn't sure exactly what to say or ask, the look in her eyes were plain however as she hoped she hadn't just failed.

Professor Ria smiled as she watched the nervous fifth year move towards the kitten. She seemed to stand for a bit looking them over lost in thought. She remember briefly how she felt taking her OWLS and though she passed them, her NEWTS made her even more nervous. She watched as she picked a small kitten that resembled her own eye color. As Ms. Penrose came toward her with the kitten she watched. No smile on her face as she waited to see what the child would do.
Aisha watched with keen eyes as she steadied her wan, her movements seemingly flawless, the word with perfect pronunciation. Then she watched as the student had as the kitten disappeared, not entirely at first, but a small portion at a time. When the whiskers finally disappeared she looked at the girl. She still had nervous about her and it was obvious that her concentration was off a bit. If she was fully concentrated on the kitten and the spell, the small furry creature would of disappeared all at once.
Once the student turned to look up at her, Aisha smiled. "Do not fret dear. You completed the practical part of the exam. You still have the written portion to complete as well for your OWLS. I think it will be harder." She smiled as she watched the student. "Now if you will, there is a booklet on my desk with your name on it and a desk next to it. I believe the last fifth year is done." She turned to look, ah, yes it was clear. "You will have your written portion now."
When the student grabs the book she will see a written exam with a single question. Describe and Define the Switching Spell.

Jillian nodded slowly, not feeling entirely confident at Professor Ria's words but the thought that at least it was over was slowly filtering through her mind. Nodding her understanding of the instructions she made her way to the teachers desk, pausing to nervously clip her wand back to her belt as she had forgotten to. Searching the desk with her eyes she found the booklet described, placed in an organised fashion waiting for her.
She made her way to the desk, remembering how large and daunting the desks had seemed in her first year. Now they seemed more comfortable and she felt at home with them. For a second she wondered if seventh years sat upon these chairs as if they were a throne but then she recalled that right now they were taking their N.E.W.T.s and probably felt far worse than she did. Once she had sat down she looked at the written exam properly, her mouth tracing the words as she read. She swallowed a little but gathered her nerves, she felt more confident with written exams than with practical ones. However this question was not an easy one as she was well aware that the spell could be used on not only objects but plants, creatures and even parts thereof, making it a difficult spell to precisely define but one that had been covered in detail in class and was not all too difficult to cast. She set about writing her answer as best she can, including whatever details she could think of and even adding a few unneeded notes on which objects she herself had found difficult to switch when first studying the spell.

Professor Ria watched as Ms. Penrose moved to take her booklet and began to write in it at the desk. She seems more at ease with the writing. She thought as another student arrived to take their exams as well. Aisha wondered if this was a better way for exams to be dealt. A single day with students coming in and out at their own pace when they were ready. It certainly seemed to be better. She made a mental note to do this every year from now on. As long as the students came during the hours her class was open they would have some kind of grade. She just hoped it would work for future students as well.
She walked around taking notes as everyone came and went for exams. She was waiting for a few more students and she wanted to see how her first years would do when they arrived. Though she did really want to have the rest of the fifth years complete their OWLS, she wanted to see whom she would let into her class next year for NEWTS. It was going to be a grand summer thinking about who would be ready to move into her NEWT course and she would have an entire year actually teaching finally when that time came.
Not to mention she also enjoyed the effect she could have on first years. She loved seeing their faces in the Grand Hall when she was a student, now she will get to see them from the Professor's table.
She shook her mind clear for a moment and looked back at Ms. Penrose, she seemed to be writing a lot. That made her smile at the student hopefully it wasn't off track and she kept it on the question.

As soon as she finished writing, Jillian made sure to carefully reread her answers, making the occasional change or addition. She was about to start reexamining it for the third time when she stopped herself and shook her head. Her answers were as good as she could make them, she thought, anything else and I'll just be muddling things. A little reluctantly she turned her exam paper over and pushed it away before standing up.
"Thank you, Proffessor." She said, unable to prevent her eyes glancing out to the courtyard and the kitten pen, "Do you know when we will be receiving our results? I was considering signing up for a summer camp this year and wondered if I would be able to request a second set of results sent there if they will arrive when I'm not with my family." She spoke hurriedly, "I, er.. am also wondering what result you require to continue into N.E.W.T.s.."

Professor Aisha watched as Ms. Penrose seemed to struggle with her responses. She wondered if the student would go with her gut feeling and just stick with her original answer. It always seemed to be the best route to go. Over thinking it could cause issues later on. As Ms. Penrose stood and closed her book, Aisha used her wand and moved the book to another location to grade later in the evening.
"You will know your grade before the closing ceremony dear. I also take students with Exceeds or Outstanding into my NEWTS." She smiled softly.

Jillian's face broke into bright smile at the news she would have the results so soon, but then immediately faltered a little as Ria continued. An outstanding result was never certain but she had done her best, there was nothing she could do now but wait. Part of her wished she had made more than a few alterations, but she ignored that part and gave her professor a nod.
"I hope I've done well enough," She said, her eyes once more flicking to the kitten pen outside uncertainly.
Collecting up her bag, she double checked her wand was on her belt again before making her way to the door.
