Dristan has brought Matilda into his study this evening after spending some family time and sat her down on the couch. "Alright Mattie. Aunt Mary is going to be here shortly. Her and I need to have a talk with you about some things in regards to Aunt Mary and I before we go to Hogwarts. He sat down next to her after getting a glass of water and brought one arm on top of the couch. "So as we explain everything to you. You may ask as many questions as you wish but you need to understand that there may be some questions that can not be answered." He wanted to make sure Mattie understood that. Dristan looks to the shadows and smiles. Looking back to Mattie. "Today was amazing. Were you able to figure out your camera by the way?" He asks curiously. The camera was her special gift from him. morte@matilda

"Why can't the questions be answered? Questions always have answers, even if I don't like them, they still have answers. That doesn't make any sense Dad." She said taking the water, having a sip and putting it down. "The camera was easy to figure out. I can't wait to put some of it to pictures. I even got one of you in wolf form yesterday. When you were sneaking around." She grinned.
"I wish I had one of mom in her form. it would help me paint her better." She said with a grin. "Is Aunt Mary sick? Is that why we need to talk?" She looked at him with a raised eyebrow.

As Matilda bombards Dristan with questions, the shadows in the corner near the fireplace begin to darken. They take on a quality almost alive in their own right, and just when they seem to spring to life, Mary is standing there, a dark shadow-raven perched on her shoulder. She's wearing a long flowing black dress, her hair neatly braided back from her face, a rosary of silver and ruby hangs around her neck. She smiles at Dristan, and Mattie, as she steps out of the darkness, the shadows closing in on themselves after she moves, until there is only normal shadow remaining.
"I hope I'm not late?" She says with a smile.
Mary is different to when Mattie first met her. She seems colder, less emotional, almost alien in a way. And the bird on her shoulder watches with deep red eyes.

Dristan was about to try and explain why certain questions could not be answered and then he glanced over and saw the shadows start to darken and smiled. As Mary appears Dristan looks to Matilda and wraps his arm around her. "It is alright. You have nothing to fear. Her way of coming for a visit Mattie." Her dad whispers in her ear and looks to Mary.
"Oh not at all. Please join us." He smiles hoping that Mattie would not freak and this would all go smoothly. "Remember she has different magic then me." He whispers to Mattie and looks to Mary. He noticed the raven on her shoulder and had a very good idea who it was.

Mattie's eyes grew wide as the shadows on the wall began to move. She couldn't think, she just stared. What was happening?! She jumped and buried herself behind he father on the couch and peeked her head out as the shadows grew. "DAD!!! WHAT IS HAPPENING!?" She screamed out as she started to shake. Her heart was pounding in her chest and she started to tremble. She closed her eyes and buried her head behind her father. "Please make it stop! Make it stop Daddy!" She kept repeating that until she felt her father's arm pull at her, then she heard a voice. She didn't want to come out.
She felt as though tears threatened her face. She only met Aunt Mary once and never like this, but sure as the day she was adopted Aunt Mary was the one standing there and the shadows seemed to be gone, mostly? She wasn't sure as it seemed that Aunt Mary was suddenly the shadows herself, like they were part of her. Mattie stared from behind her father for a long moment.
She was so glad Morticia wasn't here. That poor cat would probably be worse off then she was in that moment. She whispered in her Dad's ear. "Different magic?" Then a bit louder. "Your sister can control shadows!! And you don't tell me this!? You can't warn a girl!? What is wrong with you!?" She smacks him with a pillow from the couch.
She looks at Aunt Mary a bit sheepish and only just notices the bird on her shoulder. "Is the bird shadows also? How do you control them? What kind of magic is that? I want to do that! I could scare so many people!" She came out from behind her father and stood up from the couch and walked closer to her Aunt looking at her closely. "Like the shadows almost seem like they are part of you." She says thinking to herself out loud as if examining her.

"Hello Matilda. In many ways the shadows are a part of me, and me of them. But this is a magic no witch or wizard can learn, I'm sorry." Mary walks closer, coming to sit on the other end of the couch, with Matilda between her and Dristan. "This," she turns and looks at the bird, "is Balthazar. He's my ... familiar, for want of a better term. Would you like to touch him? Be careful, though, he is very cold."
Mary smiles at Dristan. "Have you told her anything yet?" She asks him.

Dristan could not help but smile right now. At first with the way Mattie reacted he thought this was going to go bad but as Mattie started with the questions he was relieved. Even with her hitting him with a pillow that caused him to laugh. Then the questions came and oh this was going to get interesting real quick he could tell. But Mattie needed to know before going to school. He did not want her to be blind sided about this honestly.
"No I was waiting for the both of us to talk with her honestly. We were pretty busy as of late and today her and I spent the entire day together. Mary's smile. He really missed her smile since the last he saw her and smiled in return. "Go ahead sweetheart. You can touch Balthazar. But like she says he is very cold." He nods and smiles at his daughter.

Mattie puts her hand on the bird, it is cold and she pulls her hand back and eyes him. "Is a familiar like Morticia is to me? Because we can understand each other and feed off of each other's emotions. I read it somewhere in one of your books upstairs." She looks back to her father and then back to the bird and pets it again.
"He is cold. Doesn't it bother him to be cold? He has no feather's either." She runs a finger down his back. She smiles at his eyes. "Can he change like shadows do?" She looked up to Aunt Mary and back to Dad and then to Balthazar. "It is a pleasure to meet you Balthazar." She says with a smile. "You feel weird though, not really like a bird. Does it bother you?" She started talking to the bird the way she would other animals, wondering if she could get a sense from him like she did the dogs or cats, or other various wild life she had found.

Mary smiled at all of Matilda's questions.
"Let's see," she said. "Yes, perhaps like you and Morticia. We understand each other quite well, but he does not speak. He has no feathers because he is not a bird. He also likes to be a cat sometimes, but he can also take other forms. He is not shadow, but something else. From a different place than here."
Balthazar rubs his birch head on Matilda's hand in greeting, then flaps shadowy wings.
"Being cold is natural for him. Where he comes from is deathly cold, and dark."
Matilda doesn't get a sense from Balthazar like she does from other animals. To her, it is almost like he's not even there, a void instead of a living thing.
"Now, can you guess maybe what your father and I wanted to tell you?"

Dristan remains quiet for the moment watching Mattie interact with Balthazar and Mary. It brought a smile to his face honestly to see just how curious his daughter was. But at the same time he would have to watch her to make sure your curiosity never got her into any trouble.
When Mary asked Mattie if she could guess what they wanted to talk to her about for the moment he would wait to hear Mattie's answer.

Matilda giggles at the greeting from Balthazar and looks from the bird to Aunt Mary. "Okay, so not shadows, but kinda of looks like one when in the form of what he takes. So I think for now I will just think of him as a shadowy form. Why does he come from deathly cold and dark? That seems unfair to him. Do you like it there little one?" She pets him again.
"So how can you two communicate if he can't talk?" She asked. "Also, just because he doesn't have a voice, it doesn't mean he doesn't have something to say. I could tell he wanted to say hello with his body language. Not all animals use voice to communicate you know." She wasn't trying to be a smarty pants, just that there were many ways to talk to each other.
"Well, I am going to say that you two aren't really brother and sister, though he told me as much." She turns and glares at him for a moment and sticks her tongue out at him. "I haven't done a lot of reading in the books in the library though I have gone through almost all of my school books while we were in Germany. Dad says you teach Muggle Studies there but I don't think you are muggle, so you can't teach with magic. But you wanted to teach." She smiles and looks back at the bird and pets him again.
"What does he eat? Can he eat? Does he like things? I could make him something next time I see him. I like to gift things." She smiles at him again and continues to pet him even though her hand is really cold. "But I don't think I read any where in any of my books about any type of magical being have shadow powers. So I don't know to be honest." She says quietly looking back up.

Mary smiles, "So many questions! And such a considerate child. Balthazar likes his home, but he also likes being with me. We have a magical bond, which helps us communicate. And you are right, your father and I aren't really brother and sister, but we are very good friends for a while now, so it's close. Your father and I have a close bond, too." She looks up at Dristan, then back at Mattie. "That's right, I teach Muggle studies because I have a very long experience in the muggle world. I also teach another subject with your father." She pauses, then finishes the thought. "I also teach Vampire Studies."

Dristan sticks his tongue out in return at Mattie and chuckles and just lets his daughter flow forth with the questions to Mary. Hearing from Mattie that she was starting to piece things together he nods. "Mary and I have known each other for a very long time." When Mary brought up the bond he looks to her and smiles again. When Mary brought up Vampire Studies now the questions should start to get real interesting to say the least.
He looks to Mattie now waiting for the both of them to get bombarded by questions.

Matilda looked up. "There is a vampire class?" She said with shock in her voice. "Why would y... ooooo" She said then looking up at her with bigger eyes. Her world just got a lot bigger.
"Miss Masters told me not all vampires were bad when we were at camp together. I guess she knows of one." She blinks her voice barely a whisper then her voice picked up again. "Can you fly? Like they do in the books? Crawl on the walls? I mean shadows crawl, but can you? Did you have to die to become one? How old are you really? Do you actually drink blood from people also? Are vampires more like Lestat or Dracula, or are you more like Blade or Angel? Most of the things I know are from books or tv shows. Please tell me you are nothing like that horrible movie they came out with a few years back! That would be heart breaking." She looked at her with such a different light and so many more questions came flooding out of her mouth.

"Which horrible movie is that?" She asks.
"Yes, I know Miss Masters. No, I can't fly. I can crawl on walls, but only when I turn into a shadow. Yes, I had to die. I am almost five hundred years old. I was a witch once, just like you. Yes, I drink blood. Yes, from people. I'm not sure of the various qualities of your fictional vampire's, so I'm not sure how to answer. You are a very inquisitive child indeed."
Mary smiles over Mattie at Dristan.

Dristan caught the Twilight reference and so did his best not to bust out laughing right now. But for a brief moment he imagined Mary sparkling and he smiled and just shook his head. Now the rest Mattie spoke about some of the characters he read and watched and other he did not. "No sweetheart Mary does not sparkle in sunlight like the vampires in Twilight." Dristan stifled a chuckled and composed himself. For the rest he let Mary explain about herself and he rubbed his chin a bit.
Dristan smiles when Mary smiles at him and winks at her. "One of the reasons why we fell in love with her. I look very forward to teaching her this year."

"Oh thank god. I wouldn't even mention the name. Because that was just distasteful in my opinion that they could ruin something with so much lore behind it with something so stupid." She looks to her father and smiles then looks back to Mary.
"The names are to books or tv shows I have watched or read. They are representations of vampires in our world. For muggle studies you don't know much about our literature or tv/movie shows." She chuckles softly. "Not to be mean mind you, but if you teach a class about our life out side of magic, why wouldn't you know some of it? Also 500 years!?! That is a long time. You should have heard about Dracula, it is non-fiction though it is based around a real event somewhere in the 1500's. His name was Vlad the impaler. He was a scary read. I like to read and find out about stories and their bases. Did you know a lot of the Disney movies are based on other stories told long ago as well? Some are even based around real people. I like to look odd things up online or at the library." She pets Balthazar again and smiles at the bird.
"So does he eat and if not can I give him something? Also can I see you crawl on a wall. That would be so awesome! Do you kill when you drink blood? Have you drank Dad's blood? Or Mom's? Do you drink blood from the kids at school? Does it hurt the person when you bite them? Don't drink from Mom though please, she has two babies in her that need her blood more and Dad would get upset, plus I want to be an older sister. Can you drink animal blood also? Can you make a person forget you bit them? Are there more like you or are you alone? Do all vampires walk in the shadows or are their different kinds? This is so cool!" She shouts suddenly and then giggles again and blushes a bit from embarrassment.
"Could I take your picture? Or Balthazar's? I would very much like to paint you if you wouldn't mind."

Mary laughs. "Ah, yes, Twilight. I have heard of that. An unfortunate fiction. As for the rest, I teach Muggle Studies, yes, but the fiction of the current age is not a part of the curriculum. Though I have found myself enjoying some of the popular culture of this age. I quite like the Star Wars and the Caribbean Pirates, two I have recently viewed."
She scritches Balthazar, pats her lap, and he flaps down, shifting form as he lands, then steps across to Matilda, rubbing his cat head against her hand.
"And yes, I know of Vlad Dracul. He is a little before my time and from all reports not a nice man."
Mary reaches for Balthazar, pets him.
"Balthazar can and does eat when he wishes. He can eat whatever you might like to offer him, but he is rather partial to mice. Maybe one night you will get to see me crawl on a wall, but not tonight. No, I do not need to kill when I drink blood. Yes, I have tasted your Dad's. No, I haven't tasted your mother's. No, it doesn't hurt. No, I do not enjoy animal blood. Yes, there are more like me. Yes, there are many different kinds, just as there are different kinds of people. Not all manipulate shadow. Some change shape, or are strong, or become invisible. Some are not as nice as me, and would eat a little girl all alone, so promise me you will never try to seek them out."
Mary looks to Dristan. "Do her questions have an end?" She laughs.
"You can try take my picture if you like, but it will not work. And Balthazae would prefer his not be taken. He likes to remain anonymous! But you are welcome to paint our pictures. I would like that very much."

"No her questions never end. You should have seen and heard her when she got her letter." Dristan chuckles and glides his fingers through Mattie's hair. He did love how curious Mattie was and he could only imagine how it was going to be to teach her and just the flow of questions she would give out not just to himself but to the other professors as well. "Mattie, she is right. She does not cast a reflection so taking her picture will not work but you can definitely paint their pictures for them." He smiles.
He had the part of Mattie asking if Mary had drank his blood and if it felt good. How to do you explain to your daughter that you loved Mary's bite? But for now he would see if that was not brought up again with all the questions that Mattie was throwing out at the moment.
He looks at the time and goes back to watching all of this unfold. He was loving the fact that Mattie was not afraid at all.

Matilda's eyes grow big again as she looks at Balthazar change forms right in front of her. She lets out a giggle as he comes into her lap. She pets him and smiles, then looks back down at him. "Morticia knows all the best places around here for catching mice. I am sure she would love to get a few. Maybe at the school, you can help show her around, Balthazar so she can find food also?" She speaks to the familiar even though she can't feel him the same way as she would other animals. She keeps petting him and looks up to them.
"I haven't seen any of the new Star Wars yet but I did watch the first three. Also I think you mean Pirates of the Caribbean. Jack Sparrow is my favorite in the movie." She chuckles softly. "No, Vlad was't a nice man by any accounts from what I have read." She says quietly shuttering the thought of that report she wrote last year. Her teacher was surprised Matilda had chosen such a gory subject but the girl did like her history.
"Does blood taste different to a vampire then to us? I mean, I have cut myself before while doing art projects and most common thing is to put the finger in your mouth." She looks to her father. "Does mom know she bites you?" She lifts her brow at him. "Also why would let her? Isn't that dangerous?" She turns back to Aunt Mary. "No offense." She smiles sweetly and looks back to her father. "Isn't that like cheating on Mommy? How does she feel about this? I mean, if the bite doesn't hurt, does it feel good? Or does it just feel like a bug bite? I wonder if it Mom feels betrayed, like she would if you kissed someone else or had sex with someone else." She says like a little adult woman. "Do you two have sex also? If so does that mean I have two mom's or still just one? You are marrying mom soon. Does that effect what you and Mary have?"
"I think it would be cool to see all the different kinds. Is there a catalog? To learn? Like a book for the class? Because I don't remember seeing much in the Defense Against Dark Arts book that mentioned this." She looked back towards Aunt Mary. "I have no reason to seek them out unless there comes a time when my research doesn't give me the answers I am looking for. Then I would seek them out, namely you because you are the only vampire I know. As for eating me, that won't happen. Dad won't let it. Also I am sure he will teach me out to defend myself should something happen. Besides no one can get through life with out seeking answers to things. That would be a dull life." She says with a smile.
"You can't have pictures? That must be sad. So you have no reflection?" She looks to her father when he adds the reflection part. "I guess that makes sense with some things I have read in our books. I shall not take pictures of you Balthazar." She smiles and pets him again. "I think I would love to paint you both though. Do you have a preference of form you wish to be painted in Balthazar?" She asks him.
"Also, my questions do end at some point. When my curiosity is satisfied." She stuck her tongue out at her Dad playfully.

"I'm sure Balthazar would love to show Morticia all the good hunting places at school." She smiles. This child was fun. She would be a delight in the classroom.
"Pirates of the Caribbean, yes. Jack Sparrow is very funny. The man who acts him is very good. Though the movies aren't very realistic." Mary leaves that clue hanging for Mattie, to see if she bites. After recent events, she's renewed her interests in the open sea.
"Blood tastes different, yes. Like adults say different types of wine are different. Wizard blood is more like whiskey. It's strong and too much makes you act funny. Fairy blood is like the bad drugs they warn you about in school. Werewolf blood will make you mad crazy. And Vampire blood ... is addictive for mortals, so don't go there."
It was the most concise explanation she'd ever given a child, but Mattie seemed able to handle her answers so far. She looks at Mattie, holding her gaze.
"Your mother and I have an agreement about your daddy. It's not cheating. And we don't do sex, sweety. Maybe when you're older I can show you what a bite is like."
She looks at Dristan now. No, she doesn't consider he's cheating. Teagan and she have an agreement regarding Dristan's life and death, and Mary's prior claim. For now, all is good.
"No, there are no books. As the wizard world has its statute of secrecy, the vampire world has the Masquerade. We hide who and what we are, because the mortals would fear us and kill us if they knew. At school I only teach the basics, to not breech this Masquerade. But there are thirteen different clans, and a great many bloodline offshoots from each. Vampire's are as different as people, and their powers vary greatly just like witches and wizards. Shadows are unique to my clan." She adds at the end.
"Another student of mine recently sought out vampires. They will be sixth year come September. They nearly died. So be careful of your choices, and remember that while your father will protect you to the best of his ability, he cannot help you if he is not there. All knowledge comes at a cost."
Mary stands, and walks to the fireplace, looking up into the mirror. matilda would see clearly that Mary simply isn't there. "You get used to it. Though it makes it difficult to do my own hair and make-up. I've been considering getting a full time maid." That last was directed at Dristan, and she turns to look at him. "What do you think?" Then she looks back at Mattie. "A formal portrait, like witches have done." She answers, and Balthazar moves fluidly from Matilda's lap, to leap up onto the mantle beside Mary, posing beautifully. Mary laughs at his antics.
"So, have we reached a limit for now?" She asks Matilda, moving to sit back on the sofa with them again, Balthazar shifting to something batlike to glide down onto Mary's lap, then shifting back to cat, curling to be petted, purring with one eye on the girl.

Dristan was trying his best to keep up with Mattie's question and then came the questions in regards to Mary and himself and their relationship and honestly he could understand where Mattie was coming from but at the same time as Mary had just told her there was an agreement between the three of them and it was not about to change. Perhaps when she was older he would sit down with her to speak about such intimate things and definitely his head was spinning at the moment when Mattie asked if he and Mary had sex, she was eleven for crying out loud!
"As Mary said. Your mom, Mary and I have an agreement. Your mom understands." Dristan speaks calmly and watches Mary move to the mirror above the fireplace casting no reflection. The way Balthazar joined Mary he could not help but smile. Made him wonder about the portrait that was already done for Mary that he had never showed her. What her reaction would be.
"So Mattie....anything else you would like to know sweetheart?"

Matilda listened to Mary and her father speak. Watched Mary stand and saw that she had no reflection, it amazed and terrified her in some ways. Balthazar was adorable sitting up there like he was posing and Matilda couldn't help but to chuckle at his antics.
"Okay." She said to her father. "Adult stuff can be complicated." She shrugged it off. "So thirteen clans? Bloodlines? Will we learn about that in school? Or do we only learn about keeping the secret? Because that would seem a bit dull." She shakes her head. "Keeping a secret is easy enough for kids raised in this world, I had to learn, but I haven't told Sarah." She pets the cat as he comes back over.
"You really are a beautiful creature. I like that you stand out apart from anything I have ever seen before." She smiles and wants to nuzzle his nose but settles on wrapping her arms around him and giving him a little hug as he rests in Mary's lap. "I think he is special in so many ways." She says smiling back up to Mary.
"Is the student okay? That would be just dreadful. Besides, I know not to stay out late at night. I come from New York, you know as you grow up things happen at night that don't happen during the day, even before I knew about this side of things. People are brutal." She says looking up at Mary and back to her Father thinking about the kids lighting that pour cat on fire just because they could.
"Why don't you just hire a full time beautician? They take care of that rather well. A maid is more for serving food and cleaning house. At least the ones here are. Though Elijah is awesome." She smiles brightly at that.
"I don't know that I could do a portrait like I have seen in Dad's picture room, but I would love to try. Miss Masters gave me all these wonderful colors that I haven't used yet and they just pop out at you. I think they would look grand." She leans back against her Dad and wonders what her mom's side of this little story would be if she asked her. Though she thought it might be best to stay out of adult affairs.

"Adult stuff is complicated, yes. Even for adults! As for what I will teach ... most is related to staying safe. To protect our Masquerade I rarely use names, or specifics, but you will learn enough. And, as my niece, even if only because daddy and I are such very good friends, you can always ask me more in private. How much more I can say will vary, though. I can't divulge all our secrets, or they wouldn't be secrets!"
She watches Matilda with Balthazar. It seems the imp had made another friend. She wondered if she'd see him at all once school went back. "He is lovey. He comes from a place we call the Abyss. He is a creature of that world, and takes shadow form while here. It is a world I can access, but it is dangerous. When you are older, with your father's permission, I might show you."
She glances up at Dristan, then back to Matilda. "Yes, they are well. But they have become entangled, and will find it difficult to break free. People can be brutal, yes, and kindred were once people, and in many ways we are more brutal then men." For a moment, her eyes are cold almost glacial in their green, then she smiles again. "I meant a lady's maid. A beautician would ask about my reflection, and then there would be trouble. As for your daddy's portraits ... I don't expect it to move, just the style. I had one painted once, so very long ago, but it wouldn't look anything like me now."
Mary is silent, then looks at Matilda with a grin.
"Tell me what you are looking forward to most at school."

Dristan's phone buzzed and he pulled it out of his pocket and gave no emotion as he read the message. It was for something later in the evening and he was told everything was set and guests were starting to arrive. He puts his phone back in his pocket and wraps his arm around his daughter. Now to Mattie being older and such with Mary showing her more that would be for a discussion between Mary and himself another time down the road. He was very protective of his family and would never want to see harm come to them.
He squeezes Mattie gently just being a doting father and loving it right now. Ever since her adoption went through he made sure to do all he could Mattie before school started. When Mary asked Mattie about what she looked forward to at school he smiled and looked down at his daughter.

"Staying safe is simple enough. I presume you can't come out in daylight, so I should be fine during the daylight hours. As long as there aren't more of you who can slip through the shadows, I think I am safe as well. If Dad trust's you enough to meet me and tell me these things, then why shouldn't I? Also, why can you know all of our secrets but we can't know yours? That makes no sense. You are a vampire teaching at a wizarding school. I gather they wanted you there to teach us more about your kind then just how to stay safe. You get to see everything that goes on, how we are taught and what not, but we can't see your side? It seems like the vampires get the better end of that." She says looking at her.
"Abyss? Like nothingness?" It was the only word that came to her mind when the word abyss was brought up. "The ocean has an abyss, at least that is what they call it I think. Speaking of ocean. How did you know about the movie not being correct? Did you sail like that also?" She quirked an eyebrow up at her. "Wouldn't a lady's maid ask the same thing?" She asked.
"I shall do my best then on your painting. It might take me some time though." She said beaming up at her feeling as though she was just hired. "School? I don't know. I am just excited about all of it really. Being able to finally learn how to do magic instead of watch and read about it. Dad and Dmitry have taught me a bunch of things but it is hard to put it to practice when you aren't in school. Which sucks but I deal. I look forward to not being the weird kid though. I was pretty much an outcast aside from my friend Sarah and the animals in the city. I didn't mind but it did get lonely at times. It allowed me to do other things though. I have been top of my class since second grade. I was going to push my goals to become top of my class in high school also and become valedictorian and hopefully get a full paid scholarship to any school of my choice. Though, I hadn't figured out what I wanted to do yet. Does Hogwarts have something like that? And is their a college?" She asks

"There is college, yes. And I doubt very much you will need a scholarship now. But I am sure you are destined to become a great witch." She smiles at Dristan.
"Now, a few more answers for tonight. I know all the wizarding secrets because, before I became a vampire, I was a witch. I attended Hogwarts myself, a very long time ago. The Abyss I know is not nothingness. It has its own population, its own substance, its own magic. And, regarding pirates ... in the purest definition, I was one, yes. I sailed under a black flag for many years, all over the world. I have many stories you can hear another time."

Dristan eyes beamed fatherly when Mary said that Mattie was destined to become a great witch. In truth he wanted all of his children to excel far more than he ever could. As all parents feel in regards to their children. He would give Mattie and all of his children all the tools that he could to help them all excel into greatness.
Now his eyebrow did raise hearing Mary say she was a pirate at one point and sailed under a black flag. See he was still learning about Mary and her past from time to time. He glances at Mary with a seductive look and back to his daughter gliding his fingers through Mattie's hair.
He was so happy that the adoption from the MACUSA had gone through and he was her father legally.

Matilda looks at Mary. "What house were you in?" She asks as her father runs his fingers through her hair.
It was then that Morticia decided to pop up out of no where. She jumped onto the back of the couch and walked over Dristan's shoulder and into Matilda's lap. Morticia looked at Mary, she wasn't sure how to feel in that moment about the woman and went back up to sit on Dristan's shoulder so she could see from a distance and smell. Her nose moving quite quickly sniffing the air.
"Oh, this is Morticia." Matilda laughs softly. "She is my kitten and she gets to go to school with me. Morticia don't worry come back here." Morticia jumped backed down and meowed at Matilda. "This is Aunt Mary and her familiar Balthazar." She leans over and pets the shadow cat again and sits back again as she pets Morticia.
"I think I am stumped on more questions at the moment." She chuckles softly.

"Slytherin. As were most of my family." She answers.
Balthazar takes an immediate interest in the magical cat, moving to bump noses and explore the animal. His behaviour isn't entirely cat like. No hiss or butt sniffing, but definite curiosity and friendliness.
"Well, that is good I think. There will be plenty of time for more later."
