Hope this is the right place to ask! I was hoping to work upto establishing a Caern near Arkham for Caleb and any other Garou that might end up in the area. At the same time I'm down for whatever plot is ready for the Arkham area already.

How many garou does it usually take to form a caern? I ask not because it's impossible, but to know where we stand with existing numbers, how many NPCs would be needed, etc. What is usually the first stage before a caern, with small groups? I guess what I'm saying is, do we need to define one just yet? As a comparison, there's no documented established Camarilla court or Sabbat packs for the vampires, just an acknowledgment that other vampires do exist to be NPC'd when necessary. Could the same work for garou for now, until there are more PCs?

I don't remember if there is a specific number in OWOD, but I would imagine somewhere around 5-10. A spirit for the Caern needs to be defined. Considering it's New York..a GOOD NUMBER of spirits can be called upon. Caleb...What are your thoughts?

Research should definitely be done on Spirits to see what would fit this particular area...brainstorming session!

Oh yeah definitely, spirits need to be found and appeased, very early days yet but at the least if a suitable place was found the Garou could and would protect it. I think there would be plenty of wild spirits. The potential is almost endless. Hopefully we get enough Garou to make a Caern lol. Until then I'm happy to go along with whatever plot you have going for Arkham.

Hope no one minds a newbie poking in. But since one of my character concepts directly ties in here. (No, I haven't figure out which I want to pursue yet)
While WoD has many ideas for forming a caern, if I recall, in the fiction it's at least a number of Garou to bring forth the support and rank of the caern spirit. The minimum I recall seeing is 4 (a Theurge plus 3 more). The map of Arkham that is being used shows a number of good spots (and that's without invoking the Miskatonic named grounds). But one thing I haven't figured out yet about the game setting(mostly cause I'm not really playing yet) is Arkham more urban, rural or a mixed with a sharp divide between the uptown/downtown urban Arkham and the rural pastorial Arkham?
That should help drive what kinds of spirits would be helpful and maybe looking for recognition as well as the where.

It's 2017 Arkham so it has expanded since that map has made, as towns grow into a city. There will be an uptown and a downtown and in my head I see it as being flushed all around now with the parks still scattered around and new buildings growing up around the historical locations. I see the urban areas around the outside that go out into countryside and up towards the mountains where ilvermorny and other ranges overlook the city.
I'm not too bothered about creativity when it comes to Arkham, the named locations have places in the forums as 'general' areas. The thing i'm attempting to do is give the setting without overwhelming anyone who's never dealt with Arkham or Ilvermorny before. Sometimes a board can be too big of a board imho.
