"I don't know Professor Oakwood," Jillian said simply as she processed the fact that Maria had known witches and wizards before becoming a teacher. She had rather assumed up until that point that it was only the Tremere who had maintained close contact with the wizarding world, though she knew Maria had been involved in a few important events beyond her position at the school.

"He teaches Divination." She explains. She looks at Jillian's expression, and smiles slightly. "You did know I fought in the second war, yes? My signature sits on the document of the Accord." She explains. "I remain friends with much of the wizarding world, and have more than one known descendant still within it."

"I took Arithmancy rather than Divination," Jillian admitted and nodded at the rest, she knew that Mary had been involved in the war and had assumed she had signed the accord but it was nice to have that part confirmed. The descendants was a complete surprise though. "Professor Adamson isn't..?"

Maria laughed.
"No, Professor Adamson isn't. But Quinn McGriffin was." She sounds a little sad on the last. "It's sad that she lost such control of herself and her magic to end up as she did, after she'd been such a bonus to us when a David was lost."

Jillian was speechless for a long moment before finally finding her voice, "I.. I'm sorry. McGriffin was always nice to me, maybe a little too nice.." she squirmed, feeling embarassed. "Funny you being her ancestor since she once implied that she would have my back if your world got too much for me."

"Yes, it's a funny old world. She was always a little suspicious, even paranoid. She made me prove each time we met that I was me. Never trusted me. Never really trusted herself I don't think." She shrugged. It was a loss, sure. Quinn had been one of the few she'd actually identified. But there would be more. "She and I met during the war. Those were different times. But," Maria smiles broadly, "another of mine will be starting Hogwarts this year. Let me know if you guess who."

"She never did that with the students, actually tried to arm some of us I think," she said in an amused fashion, "Wonder if she underestimated us or something."
Jillian took that remark as a challenge and nodded, "I already know some of the names starting this year, it will be interesting to see who may be related to you. Are you close?" she pondered for a moment, "This whole thing does make me wonder how possible it is that I have a vampire in my ancestry, an odd thought that."

"No, i haven't met them yet. Though I do know their name." She smiles. "You may have. You may just as likely have werewolf or fae or a great many other interesting things in your background. Maybe one day you can investigate thoroughly." It was a nice idea. Thouh tracing one's family tree often revealed things best left hidden.

Jillian nodded slowly, thinking hard on the possibilities. "My fathers side is well documented, almost certainly further back than you may remember but who knows what secrets weren't recorded.." she muttered to herself, "My mothers side is less documented."

"How far back does your father's side go? I can remember quite a long way," she chuckles. "Though I'll admit to not being present for it all. I did leave the country after all. It would be interesting to know if any of my descendants found their way into your family tree."
She knew wizard records we're good, she'd been makin fuse of many of them for her searches, but even their recorded history wasn't complete, or detailed beyond a certain time.

"Fourteenth century, I think.. Although it is hard to say how accurate any of it was before the late sixteenth or seventeeth century." Jillian managed to remember, history had never been her strong suit but the Penrose lineage was at least a little important. Even her mother seemed proud of it. By her tone Jillian held some of that pride, but also had some uncertainties on the subject, "The Penrose family has diminished in time, but still has its heritage. We have been involved with certain departments of the Ministry as long as it has been around."

Maria nods. "That is a long history. Mine only extends to the early 16th. Though my family goes back before then too. To Ireland, originally. The quiddich team, the Kenmare Kestrels, our family founder was one of the team founders." She smiles. The team she knew was founded in the late 13th century. She had always loved family history, and it was the spark of her seeking out her descendants.
"The Penrose name is indeed an old one. I wouldn't say it has deminished, more .., concentrated." She smiles. "I feel, if you keep your course, it could become quite loud once more."

Jillian was both impressed and pleased to lear that interesting little bit of insight into Mary's past. "Do you still follow the team?" she asked curiously, not knowing whether the professor had any interest in Quiddich at all. Jillian never really attended the matches at school so had no way of knowing if Kestrel had wandered down to catch the end of the occasional match which had gone on past sunset.
She blushed deeply at the compliment though, shifting a little uncomfortably. "I have been worried that my course has been straying too far from family traditions actually.." she admitted, feeling embarassed.

"I do keep an ear open for their progress. But I'm not an active fan. I'm not sure they'd appreciate knowing they have a vampiric supporter." She smiles. "As for family traditions ... don't let them bind you to a future. Choose the future that is best for you, and make new traditions."
Maria knew this course. She hadn't followed any family tradition, but had left to become her own person.

"In short, be my own master still?" Jillian said with faint amusement. She then looked around the room, taking in the few people who had been looking at them earlier "Have you ran into a lot of trouble with wizards unappreciative of what you are?" she asked tentatively. Despite Aisha's instructions she had never told both her parents about what she had done over the summer. Her mother was aware of what David was and of Jillian's crush. She had promised to keep both from her father however and Jillian felt that her mother had been playfully mocking her about it all too, which only goes to show what parents think, she thought to herself. "I suppose that is the sort of question I should be asking in time."

"Yes, always be your own master. Sometimes, you may choose to compromise that, but it should always be your choice. Beware blood confusing that. Do you know of blood bonds yet, and how they work?"
She smiles when Killian questions her about trouble with wizards. "No, I am on good terms with Headmistress McGonagall, and with various Ministry officials I deal with. And have been since I made myself know during the war. Some look at me strangely at times, but since the Accord, relations have been largely non-aggressive. Why do you ask?"

Jillian nodded, her expression making it clear that she found the subject distasteful. "I know enough of them to understand why your blood is considered a controlled substance, yes. The subject has raised a lot of worrying thoughts in my mind since I first learnt of them." she sighed, looking down, "I do not understand those who willingly make that choice."
Mary's other question makes her look up, "I.. I just think that relations between wizards and.. Cainites, is something I should pay close attention to now. Wherever my path leads, it seems likely that I might run afoul of those who are not supportive of the Accord in time, or at least find myself in a position where I may have to speak up in the defence of yourself, David or Rose."

Mary smiles at Jillian's reaction. "That is a very healthy attitude to have. Our blood is very addictive. I think I may have to include the subject in my lessons. The Accord is a quite simple document. All it really states is that I will not share your secrets with the world, and you will not share mine. And so on. We uphold each others' laws of secrecy. That is really all it is. So, be careful who you choose to defend us from, and why."
She sits back in her chair, and glances around the rok s. She gets a couple of looks, but none phase her.

"You're right, I think it should be covered in class." Jillian nods. She enjoyed knowing information that others did not, but in this case she felt it was important enough. "I thought the accord also laid down certain expectations regarding your feeding too." Jillian said. She phrased it as a question but it was clear she had done enough reading to know that what she was saying was fact.
"I will try to keep that in mind, though I have taken too many steps on the path to be comfortable with those who might hate you."

"Fortunately no one has yet specified that they hate me." She gives a small smile. "As for feeding, well, it's not in the original Accord document, but it's an expectation that children are off limits. Not just wizarding children, but all children. Which is fine by me. The species needs to continue. All of them. Am I right?" She smiles more broadly. "I mean, I had children. I would be a hypocrite if I fed on children now, knowing how I felt about my own then."

Jillian nodded, "Must be difficult hurting people like that anyway, let alone children." she pondered for a moment, "I'll admit I don't know much about the feeding side, other than that wizarding blood is different from muggle blood. How often do you have to feed and how much is taken? I mean.. If it is not too rude my asking. I am sorry if it is.."

"Perhaps, again, these are things for class." She smiles. "You are still most inquisitive, and I do like to see that. But some things should be savoured, no?"
Maria want going to answer any more wuestions tonight. Jillian could wait until class, is she had the patience.
"And please, no more solo investigations in dark alleys!" Mary chuckled.

Reluctantly agreeing Jillian nodded and gave Mary an apologetic smile. "Nice to know that some things I am learning I will be able to put into exams." she joked quietly.
"I have had to make that promise quite a number of times, Maria." she squirmed at the half-joke and laugh, but managed a weak smile, "Being saved by a knight once is plenty, I assure you."
She glanced at the old clock, surprised at just how much time had passed while the two had been talking.

"I am very glad you were saved. Very glad. So keep making the promise, and we'll all get to see you bloom into the amazing woman we suspect you will become." Mary smiled. She noticed Jillian's glance at the clock.
"Are your parents expecting you home by a certain time?"

Jillian blushed a little at the compliment and didn't reply. She had no idea what she could say to that, she still felt small and awkward when around either Maria or Rose after all. Both of them were so much more experienced, so much more worldly, so much more beautiful than she could ever be.
"I don't think they even know I am out actually" she admitted a little reluctantly, "They are very busy, you know."

"I'm sorry for that. You deserve better. Parents should be active in a child's life." Mary did indeed seem sorry. Like, to her, it was expected that parents would spend time with their children, know where they were. "Perhaps it's time you went home, and made your presence known." She smiled.

"Work is important too, though. Magic can only take you so far and if I am to grow up any good, I need school books and everything." she smiled, nodding and finishing what remained of her drink. That made for a good explanation she thought, but she felt deep down that family tradition, long work hours at the ministry and a passion for discovering new things were perhaps the larger reasons for her parents being so busy. "We attend boarding schools, so there is not much chance for them to be active anyway."
She slipped off her chair to stand near Maria, "Going home is probably a good idea though."

Maria nods. "Probably. Boarding school is all the reason to find time for you during the holidays, no? Perhaps your new mentor can be of assistance with books." She smiles cheekily, knowing Rose sold books.
She stands, offers Jillian a hug. It was a motherly gesture, even though her embrace would be a cold hint.

Jillian disregarded the subject of her parents, not knowing what to say and instead shook her head in response to the talk of Rose, "She still has a business to run," she said, quoting Nikolaus, "I think the shops collections are more esoteric than school text books in any case."
There was a brief moment of hesitation with the hug as Jillian remembered what she had learnt of the womans strength, but she accepted the hug. The chill was unusual but not entirely unpleasent and she was thankful for the gesture.

"Well, then, should you feel you are in need, remember you can come to your friends. It may be that we have deeper pockets." She smiles.
Mary begins to walk towards the door, Jillian in tow. She nods to the barkeep, tossing him a galleon just because. She ignores any potentially unpleasant looks.
