The schoolyear would be starting soon. If Rose was to go through with her plans to become a part-time teacher or tutor at Hogwarts, then they were both in agreement that a certain loose end needed to be tied up. They'd heard nothing from 'Max' in the month since his murder, and the case was threatening to go cold among Scotland Yard. Nikolaus had come to believe that the man, using his magical surveillance, knew that the Tremere were on to him, got spooked, and laid low until then. So long as he had attempted Thaumaturgy and failed to perform it, it wasn't a priority, but they needed to keep this guy on their radar in case it turns out to be more than just some wizard fiddling with magic he clearly knew very little about. Of course, they both had to be sure. They didn't want any surprises.
And that meant it was time to check up on their main lead as to his identity. Nikolaus and Rose made their way to Cobb and Webb's, one of the more prominent shops in Knockturn Alley, and one where they knew the shopkeeper knew Max personally and where they were certain he had purchased his ritual implements. He could feel the small framed mirror in his breast pocket that Rose had given him and he realized it'd been a while since he'd actually used it. Tonight would probably not be the night either.
Even if they found nothing, they needed to be sure that he wouldn't become a headache to them again.
Nikolaus held the door open for Rose, his eyes scanning the store for customers. He'd rather they were alone but if they weren't, he'd have to find a way to ensure that Rose would not be interrupted while she worked her magic. Finally, his eyes settled on the shopkeeper, his face expressionless, but his gaze unblinking, until he gave her a polite nod.
"Bonsoir, très chère."
