After the events in Rosses Corner and at the ball. Matilda just wanted to feel normal again. She was tired of hiding from danger. She had remembered that she offered to take Jermey to her favourite café in the park. She liked him and was looking forward to seeing him again.
She had left a phone message and had sent an email to him saying that if he still wanted to take her up on the offer then she would be here most of the day. She didn't want to take him away from his work. The park itself was a beautiful park. The type of park that prides itself on their flowers. It was a place she loved.
She ordered herself a pot of Lady Grey for one and took out her current book Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. She sent a message to Arthur just to let him know that she was safe as she waited for Jermey. Mostly to see if he would come.

Whilst surveying his emails chasing a particularly delectable book he was after Jeremy came across the email Matilda had sent earlier. Reading it thoroughly he wrote down the address of the café and proceeded to get himself ready. Donning his woollen knit jumper over his shirt, he reached into a drawer and took his wallet before affixing his watch to his wrist.
Finding the park was easy enough. The flowers irradiated a sense of conformity in comparison to the abstract shaped the builders had put in to the rest of Arkham. They reminded him of his homeland and the flower riddled pastures of his younger years. For a long moment his pace slowed as he took in the smells, sights and sounds of the local flora. This is the first time in a while since moving to Arkham that he had come across the park, and even then the last time was at night.
Turning a corner on the path Jeremy saw the café that Matilda had mentioned. Tho there where a few patrons dotted about Jeremy recognised the well worn book of 'Wuthering Heights' as being that of Matilda.
As he approached the table that his friend sat at, a small dog, a terrier of some description ran in front of his gait. Causing a slight trip on Jeremy's part in an attempt to avoid stepping on the dog. However in doing so he lightly knocked a table where a couple where having lunch, very nearly spilling their refreshments. After a flurry of apologies and hand gestures to make sure they where ok, and where aware it was an accident. Jeremy finished his arduous journey to Matilda's table. Standing behind the chair Jeremy chimed in a cheerful manner "Hello Matilda! How are you? May I?...." and he pointed at the chair.

It was only a few days ago that three armed men tried to kidnap Matilda. She'd killed two of them herself, and Arthur had taken her to a hotel that night, rather than home, in case they tried again.
He'd done his best to keep her safe, but she kept wanting to do unreasonable things like go to work, go shopping, run errands. He'd kept his distance, but didn't want her alone again, and having to defend herself in such a bloody manner.
So, when she went out to the park for tea, he tagged along. Keeping far enough back that she hopefully didn't notice. Using all the skills he'd used in England to avoid Wizards, both light and dark, and other unsavoury elements like the local constabulary.
He'd come to sit on the other side of the cafe, drinking whiskey laced tea, reading a newspaper. The only real give-away that it was him being his trusty walking stick. He watched her from a distance, so was most interested to see Jeremy walk up and begin a conversation. There was something familiar about the man, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

Matilda was still reading her book as she heard a commotion happened a few tables along. She put down her book to see what had happened. She sees a gentleman apologie to the people at the table. She recognises the gentleman as Jermey and she smiles.
She watches him make his way to the table and asks how she is. "Oh hello Jermey. I'm well thank you. Glad you came and of course please sit down" she says in a cheerful manner. "I only ordered a pot for one as I had no idea what tea you would like"

"Oh thats alright." Says Jeremy understandably, and he motions for the waitress to come over. "How's the book?"he asks motioning at the book nestled in Matildas hands. As he begins to sit down he makes a conscious effort to make sure no dogs are nearby...just in case.
The waitress comes over and he orders a pot of Oolong. The sweet fragrant taste will go with the flowers in the park.
"Have you been up to anything exciting since we last met?" He says, a warm friendly smile accompanies the question.

Arthur sits back and watches. He can almost hear them from here. They're not that far away. Jeremy ... the name rang a bell. But this wat the same Jeremy as before! The guy sounded English. For the briefest jealous moment Arthur wondered if Matilda simply had a thing for English men, and she was two timing him. His temper rose, and he wanted to smash the man who sat with his woman. Then he breathed, and let himself calm. He could just be a friend. Let's see it play out!

Matilda watches him sit down and ask about the book. "I have to say it is not great at the moment, but I always like to finish what I'm reading. I've just decided to read works of The Brontë sisters" She pours herself some more tea and took a sip.
"I've not been up to much. Went away for a few days for some sunshine and just mostly work" she says, not mentioning the other events that happened. "How about you. Have you done anything exciting since we last met?"
Matilda is blissfully unaware that Arthur is watching.

"Ahh the Brontes!" His voice making it clear he was going down memory lane. "Not really my cup of tea nowadays, but I did read them in my youth. Tho I much preferred The Professor to Wuthering Heights." He says smiling, both with his eyes and his lips. "Im currently going through some of the works of a more recent author. Patrick Rothfuss. Have you heard of him?"
Upon hearing of her recent trip out of Arkham, Jeremy clasps his hands together in front of him "That sounds delightful! Where did you go?" He says rolling his hands back and forth. "Well I wouldnt say anything that exciting, but I certainly made some progress. I phoned the psychiatrical hospital to check up on my friend there. They said he is doing well and is having sporadic moments of clarity! He has also started drawing, which is a vast improvement on the last time I saw him" he says, this clearly being one of the reasons he is in a good mood.
The waitress brings over his tea, to which he thanks her and begins pouring himself one.

"I never read them in my youth. At school I read stuff like The Great Gatsby and To Kill a Mockingbird" she says when he mentions that he read them in his youth. "No I can't say I've heard of Patrick Rothfuss"
She smiles when he says delightful. It seemed so typically British as a response. She takes another sip of her slightly more agreeable tea before saying "Oh I went down to Florida. Needed to feel the sun. As much as I like it here. I am partial to the sun". She leans a little closer to him to allow her to listen to him speak about his friend.
"That is good news to hear that he is improving" she says to him.
She starts to worry that she is starting to develop slight feelings for Jermey. She loves Arthur, but she can't shake off these feelings for Jermey.

"You'd be surprised to know i have never read To Kill A Mockingbird! Not even picked it up!" He says with reserved exclamation. "The Wise Mans fear is an epic written by Rothfuss. Im not always one for fantasy however a clever author can make a good book out of anything! Is there an author, a modern author, who has taken your fancy?" He asks quizzically.
"Florida?" He sips his tea, bringing the accompanying saucer up with the cup as he drank. " Well i hope you had fun! Ive never been, this is as far as ive been in the States."

"I only read it as it was on the recommended reading list at school. Really enjoyed it". She listened to Jeremy speak about Rothfuss as she drank the last of her tea. "The last modern author I really liked was Neil Gaiman. The library got a few of his books in and I spent a week just reading American Gods"
She thinks of the fun she had in Florida with Arthur and smiles "yes I had fun,was just a chance to relax" she looks into the distance for a few moments before adding "There is a lot of the US to explore. I've yet to see most of it"

Hearing of her recent endeavours into modern authors Jeremy feels a touch of enjoyment of finding a like minded person in Matilda. " I can imagine! That is a beautiful collection of books, and he is a very clever author!" He states, showing his excitement for the modern classics as much as the older ones. " Its actually my fondness of fantasy and fables that got me into collecting the books i collect. You know, books on the occult and such" He says explaining himself.
Thinking that there is more to the word 'fun' Jeremy decides it would be less embarrassing for both of them if he doesn't enquire any further about her trip. "Have you got any plans to travel the rest of the states?"

"He is a fantastic author and the way he combines Norse and the modern world. I just shut out the world. Turned everything off" she listens to what Jeremy says about the occult and how he finds it interesting. "I don't normally find the occult interesting, but part of me does wonder about it in the real world"
She catches the waitress and orders a pot of Earl Grey with a slice of lemon. "I've seen books on the occult at work. We're known for it and I'd like to visit the West Coast of America but I've used my annual leave"

"That's what i find fascinating.." he begins, excitement brimming through his voice. " At some point people would have to believe it was real. Now..." he says with a curios tone "...we have yet to reach the pinnacle of the sciences. So we don't know if there is an element of truth to their writings and teachings! Even if it is misguided information! Have you never thought of this?" he asks calmly whilst sipping his tea.
" I must definitely visit the library. I feel ashamed that i have yet to go." He says, his voice betraying his shame.

Trying to keep it cool that she finds it interesting and hiding that she is indeed a believer "I just think that maybe there are some things that we cannot explain. Be that something higher up or just natural phenomena" she says to him before pouring her tea.
"There's no need to be ashamed, there's always time to visit. Maybe not in the next few days, new students coming in" she says to him trying to reassure him.

"I agree wholeheartedly" taking a sip of his Oolong tea to consider more on what he is about to say. "Personally, I fell there is no such thing as a god or gods. But certainly misguided beliefs on phenomena be them natural or....supernatural..."his eyes stare into his tea as if he has recalled something. Or, possibly, several things. "I mean....I imagine we all have experienced something supernatural." Staring into Matildas eyes as he finishes, his sentence.
"Ahh yes, both a burden and a pleasure all at once. "He chuckles."Tho, in a way im tempted even more to visit sooner the as not only will I see you there ill have some potential customers in some of the students!"

Arthur is hearing bits and pieces of the conversation, as other noise around him ebbs and flows, and he has finaly worked out why Matilda's companion was familiar. They'd met. Hickory, antiques dealer, London. What was he doing here? And why was he having tea with Matilda?

Matilda feels a little offended when Jeremy says that he believes that there are no God or Gods and that it could be misguided. She looks into her tea knowing that she's seen her God and that it is not misguided at all. Once he says something about experiencing something Supernatural she looks directly at him “Yes we all have experienced things that are supernatural in nature. Things you struggle to understand”
Her tone changes “Of course students are fun to deal with. Means I'll be now back to telling them off but also helping them find what they need” she drinks some more tea before adding “you're more than welcome to come and see the place. We do have a few book shops so a lot of them try and get the student dollar”

In an attempt to understand what he said that made Matildas face show a hint of offense at one of his own comments. The antiques dealer from England, or rather, the antiques dealer from England who isnt currently engaging in a moment of espionage in the same room. Decided it is best to delve into the subject of the supernatural even more. "What sort of things have you seen?" He asks puttinv one elbow on the table and placing his hand beneath his head.
"Ahh excellent, excellent."he exclaims. "I cannot wait, tho it may have to. As my week is busy until next week."

Matilda starts to panic a little bit inside. She wasn't going to let him catch her out so soon. She is showing the face of Matilda Harrow, University Librarian, not Matilda Harrow worshiper of Nyarlathotep.
"I've not seen much at all" she pauses and drinks some more tea and debating what to say "But when I was in London. I saw something strange. I remember it like it was yesterday. The smell of death around me at Tower bridge. Something or someone was using something to kill people. I saw people I knew murdered by something. I left to move back to Boston a few days later" she says to him quietly so only he could hear her. Making sure that she left out seeing Nyarlathotep up close and losing sense of her sanity.

As Matilda tells Jeremy of her experience his eyes raise and his tea cup, which was going to his lips, is moved back towards the table and placed to the side of the saucer. "Wow. That must have been something!" he says in quiet shock. " I can imagine something like that stays in your memories for a long time!" Jeremy feels concern for Matilda, having to go through that experience.
"Im afraid i havent had anything quite as exciting." he admits."I had a strange experience whilst visiting my friend in the asylum in London. Upon leaving every single patient in the cells i walked passed murmured or more sang in a low hypnotic tone. I know it wasnt as bad as yours, but that was scary for me." He moved his hand up and clutched something behind his jumper. " And then there was the flight over. I dreamt the plane was being hunted by something huge and terrifying. Silent death. But when i woke up, still in the air, out of the corner of my eye, it was always there." He looks into his cup and moves it back on to the saucer

"It is something that has stayed with me. I've never told anyone about it. Just tried to block it out" she says to him. She feels comfortable talking about this with him.
She listens to what he says about what happened in an asylum and it sounds terrifying "That sounds horrible, especially in a place like that and the dream as well" she feels worried for him. She doesn't want him to think he's alone anymore "If you ever want to talk about anything or just someone who will listen to you. I'm always around Jeremy"

"I understand." He says, his smile belaying how comfortable he is around Matilda. "Thankyou."
"The murmurings haunted my dreams for nights. And, to be honest, its the main reason i find it a struggle to go inside another psychiatric hospital. "He bows his head. "But, it is something i am going to have to do by myself. " Taking his tea, he looks up once more at Matilda. "Thankyou....for listening." It is apparent he means this from his heart. "You shouldnt block something like that out"He says meaning the incident Matilda told him about."Blocking something as....horrible as that out can make it worse in here."He says pointed at his head.

"You're welcome Jeremy" she says back at him smiling.
"I understand that it is something that you need to do alone and I'm sure you'll get there. I think you're strong enough to get through it" she drinks her tea and she looks at him again
"I know I shouldn't block it out but I'm scared that it has already affected my mind" she says back to him.

Listening to Matilda, Jeremy doesnt realise he has finished his current cup of tea. "What makes you think it has affected your mind?"
Bringing his cup up to his mouth, he tips it completely. Only then realising that it is empty. "Ill go soon. I havent seen him in too long. I have to go.." He says the last words almost a whisper as they leave his mouth. "Is that experience what got you into the occult?"

"Seeing anything like that changes you. I became distant from others. I stopped speaking to my family. Broke up with my partner in London. I couldn't deal with it. I still get it sometimes"
She listens to him speak about seeing his friend in the asylum and she nods, almost in agreement with him. "It was working here when I found myself drawn back into it. I was curious. Still am" she puts her hand on the table and starts playing with the tea spoon on the table.

"Have you reconciled with your family?" His question and his face betray the concern he has for Matilda. He cannot imagine anyone going through her experience, and yet he believes her.
Listening to his friend speak if being drawn back in. He is reminded of their first meeting together. Of how they discussed a shared interest in the occult, speaking of it as an adventure. He mirrors his thoughts. " Ever looking for an adventure " he states, staring at the teaspoon in Matildas hand and laughs.
After a moment, Jeremy breaks the short silence. "So! How did you find this darling little place?" His hands gesturing to the cafe.

A few hours after their heated encounter in the forests Caleb and Tess strolled into the French Hill area looking for food. Lead by the pleasant scent of fresh cooked food found themselves in the Merchant District. He nudged Tess and pointed over to a coffee shop, 'What about dat one dere? Looks like it's got nice food and outdoor seating!'
He sniffed the air, over the smell of food he smelt a familiar scent, Matilda? Arthur? He looked around and saw Matilda sitting talking with someone, was it Arthur? Didn't look like Arthur, but he was sure he could smell Arthur!
'Tess! Dere's Matilda!'

Tess looked up to where Caleb had pointed wrapped up in the huge sheepskin coat he had given her as they walked in almost silence since the kiss. She didn't want to think about that and at the same moment it was all she could think of. Tess looked again at the figures Caleb pointed out to her, glad of a distraction for now.
Well Irish if they are your friends it's rude not to say hi, we could get coffee to go and sit outside if Matilda isn't keen on being reminded of the last time we met, it might be a bit soon for her? Besides I may fade away to nothing if I don't eat soon.
she smiled shyly as she looked at him from the corner of her eyes subconsciously brushing her lips the memory of his pressing against hers causes a slight blush to rise to her cheeks.

"Oh yes I've reconciled with my family now. We're pretty close again" she picks up a menu to look for food to have here "adventures can be fun, but I'm not one for adventures"
The silence feels awkward. She hates the silence but it gives her time to think about the slight feelings she's developing for Jermey. "Why haven't I said anything about having a boyfriend, then again this isn't the best point" she thinks to herself.
Jermey asking about the café brings her out of her thoughts "Oh it was a few years ago when I went to a works lunch here. Fell in love with the place"
